Our story begins when we met for the first time during Elihu’s first visit to Ethiopia in May of 2019. Our parents were close friends as young adults in Addis Ababa, and had always kept in touch throughout the years. This family vacation, originally meant for old friends to catch up and for Elihu to see his parent’s homeland, turned out to be a serendipitous encounter for us. We spent the majority of the three week visit with one another, growing closer every day. On the days we spent separated, we each noticed a slight somberness in ourselves, but also an excitement in anticipation of seeing each other again. At the end of Elihu’s visit, we both made plans to stay in contact. From that point on, we never stopped keeping in touch. We would talk frequently and try to arrange trips to see each other even though our busy school schedules, a global pandemic, and the long distance between us made it difficult at times. Despite these challenges our relationship grew and a love and understanding was built as we learned more about each other. After two years of dating, we were engaged on January 7th, 2022, marking one of the happiest moments in our lives. The adventure continues as we prepare to wed exactly one year later. We can't wait to spend forever together!
