Abby Duggan caught my eye immediately on the first day of marching band. I have since been told that I didn't hide my infatuation very well, but what can I say, the curls did me in. Those of you who know me know I am a pretty outgoing person, but boy was I shy when it came to the curly headed trumpet player. My entire section knew I was crushing big time and that I wasn't going to talk to him on my own. Next thing I knew he was standing right behind me and all I could muster up the courage to say was, hey. That one word must've done something for him because the following weekend I was ill at a competition and woke up to a check in text from none other than Duggan Foley himself. Duggan We met on the first day of marching band camp in 2018. Abby was staring at me from across the parking lot where we practiced, but what she didn't know is that I had already been looking at her too. After a few days, a mutual friend approached me and mentioned Abby wouldn't stop asking about me. So I decided to approach her. After that first conversation, filled with all the awkwardness and timidity of teenage angst, the rest was pretty much history. I loved her bright blue eyes and her smile. Here we are five years later, and I’m so glad I talked to that cute saxophone player.
Duggan had just returned home from a fellowship in Washington, D.C. for Abby's graduation party. After the party they had plans to spend the last week of the summer in Marquette before returning for school. This trip fell over Duggan's birthday, perfect to hit the beach and spend time with family. Due to the upcoming school year, it was the perfect time to disguise a certain important package as a textbook, or other back to school essentials. Duggan was able to sneak the ring in without suspicion. For his birthday, they enjoyed a meal at The Vierling and were off to secret beach. After a year of trying to figure out when he would pop the question, Abby and her close girlfriend had ruled out a few days, one of them being Duggan's birthday. It was a huge surprise to her when he got down on one knee as the two were watching the sunset.
