FAQs

Question

What airport do we fly into?

Answer

Mumbai (BOM) is the main airport for your wedding events.

Question

When should we book flights?

Answer

As early as possible — prices rise FAST depending on season.

Question

How long is the flight?

Answer

From NYC, expect 14–16 hours nonstop, or longer with layovers.

Question

Do we need a visa to visit India?

Answer

Yes. U.S. citizens need an e-Visa, which is easy but must be done online before arrival.

Question

Is there transportation from the airport?

Answer

We’ll share options! Taxis, Ubers, and pre-booked cars are available. (India airport pickups look chaotic but run surprisingly smoothly.)

Question

Where should we stay?

Answer

We recommend staying at the hotel where reception will be held so everyone stays together and avoids chaos.

Question

Will the wedding events be far apart?

Answer

No. We’ll keep travel simple - no more than 30 minutes apart.

Question

What should we wear to the Sikh ceremony?

Answer

Modest clothing that covers shoulders and knees. A scarf or head covering is required (we’ll have extras). Also, shoes are to be taken off at the entrance.

Question

What should we wear to the other events?

Answer

Bright, festive, fabulous outfits. Traditional attire is welcome, but not required.

Question

Will we need to sit on the floor at the ceremony?

Answer

Yes, traditionally at the Gurdwara. Chairs can be provided for anyone who needs one.

Question

What’s the weather like in Mumbai?

Answer

Warm. Maybe hot. Maybe humid. Just assume summer weather even if it’s not summer.

Question

What about food?

Answer

There will be variety — mild, medium, and spicy options. No one will be forced into a spice challenge.

Question

Is alcohol served at Indian weddings?

Answer

Yes at most events — just not inside the Gurdwara where the ceremony will be taking place

Question

Will my phone work in India?

Answer

Most U.S. carriers have international plans. Or you can buy a cheap local SIM at the airport.

Question

Should I bring cash?

Answer

Yes, but you can also use card or Apple Pay in many places. Cash is helpful for small shops, markets, and tipping.

Question

What’s one thing I should absolutely pack?

Answer

Portable charger. (Second place: comfortable sandals for the wedding marathon.)

Question

I know you're thinking it...........Will there be someone telling us what to do???

Answer

YES. There is always an auntie or uncle ready to guide you. Just follow them — they know everything.
