From 2020 to Today

Apparently dating apps work!

We matched on Tinder in the early days of the pandemic. Neither of us was expecting to find a relationship - it was the height of the quarantine and we both figured swiping was just another way to pass the time. But, once we began talking, text exchanges turned into four-hour FaceTime dates, FaceTime dates turned into real dates, and real dates turned into building a life together. Many of you probably thought we were crazy when we moved in together four months into our relationship, but we found the old cheesy saying to be true: when you know, you know. We have since moved across the country together, adopted two perfect cats, and started building a life in California filled with sunshine, laughter, and a LOT of cat dander. We cannot wait to take this next step together and take full advantage of the excuse to gather all of our favorite people in one place. We hope you will join us for this special day, and we can't wait to see you in Camarillo.

The Proposal

December 29, 2023, was the second night of our first trip back to New York since moving cross-country. We went to our favorite Williamsburg restaurant, Oregano, for some fantastic Italian food. The meal took a lot less time than expected, and Sam did not understand why that seemed to stress Tristan out. Tristan suggested a walk around nearby McCarren Park, and then our favorite - Domino Park. As we walked, Sam had a feeling it might be coming and got very chatty. Tristan was particularly un-chatty. When we arrived at Domino, Tristan led Sam to a quiet spot along the East River, and we looked out at the Manhattan skyline. It's one of our favorite views in NYC. We talked for a minute, and when Tristan said "I have something to ask you..." and began reaching into his pocket, Sam immediately started sobbing. Tristan got down on one knee, Sam ugly cried through the "will you marry me," and it was all completely perfect. After a few moments together laughing, crying, hugging, and admiring the ring, Sam realized Tristan had invited two wonderful friends (Alex Cope & Danica Clauser) to photograph/video the proposal from a park bench nearby. They had seen the whole thing, and Alex captured the beautiful picture you see below.
