Abe and Liz first met at church in 2011 when they both joined the youth ministry band. Over the next few years, they became very involved in church activities together, where Abe began to grow interested in Liz, but never said anything directly. Going their separate ways for college, they lost contact except for occasional events at church during breaks. After college, Liz moved to San Antonio, Texas to teach; Abe stayed and pursued a career in marketing and graphic design. After a couple years of minimal contact, Liz would come home on break and she and Abe would reconnect over coffee at Tim Hortons. Abe's interest continued to grow during these catch-ups, and he expressed it to Liz, but she was hesitant. Liz would share stories of teaching at her charter school network, ultimately inspiring Abe to apply to teach at one of their schools in Phoenix, AZ. After teaching for a year in Phoenix, Abe called Liz to catch up and talk about his first year teaching. During this call, it became clear that both of them shared many of the same values and were aligned in their hopes and plans for the future. Liz's interest was finally sparked, and after a few weeks she began initiating conversation over text. As this was very unusual, Abe wondered if something more was going on. After a month of Liz dropping hints, Abe called her to ask her intentions. Liz finally expressed her interest and they decided to intentionally begin long distance dating with phone calls, FaceTimes, and visits during school breaks. After eight months, Abe brought Liz outside of the chapel after Holy Thursday Mass and told her that he had a question for her. Going down on one knee, he asked her if she would marry him.
