This lodge is about a 10 minute drive from Shangri-La--another lodging option for those not staying at Shangri-La. (Subject to availability--please be sure to communicate with us if you are not choosing to stay at Shangri-La.)
Travel Note
We recommend an overnight trip to Valparaiso, if you have time. This is a funky port-town with amazing street art around every corner.
Travel Note
Isla Negra, the third (and favorite) home of Pablo Neruda, is about an hour down the coast from Valparaiso and worth a visit. Wandering through Neruda's home is a delight and Abby recommends sitting at the restaurant on the rocky shore with a bowl of caldillo de congrio (conger eel soup) and a glass of carmenere.
Travel Note
Pomaire is a sweet little day trip from Santiago and known for the pottery made from natural clay in the surrounding hills. (It would also be a great stop if you're doing a road trip to Valparaiso, Isla Negra, etc.) Even better--it's only 30 minutes away from Oriel's hometown of Peñaflor. If you're traveling there before January 3, let us know and we'd love to host you for tea in the town where Oriel grew up!
Travel Note
The wedding will take place just on the outskirts of the Colchagua Valley, one of the most famous wine regions in Chile. We'll be close to the town of San Fernando, so wineries in that area would be a very easy stop. (We may organize a little wine tour near San Fernando on Friday afternoon for those interested, so stay tuned!). Or, if you want to do a road trip, we recommend the area around Santa Cruz. When we visited the area three years ago, we stayed in a little B&B just outside the town. One of our favorite evenings was a visit to the Laura Hartwig boutique winery, followed by a walk through the vinyard to neighboring Casa Colchagua Restaurante.
Travel Note
There's plenty to do if you have a day or two in Santiago!
