We met at the best, most talked-about party of the year, the one everyone waits all year for: the Snodgrass family Halloween party. My sister Ashlynn and River's sister Macy have been friends since high school, but River and I had never met. Ashlynn invited me to tag along with her to the party (which I later found out we weren’t actually invited to, sorry Amy and Gary), and I was really excited to go! I, however, didn't know that it was an elaborate setup by both of our sisters. To set the scene, I was dressed up as Jenna from 13 Going On 30, and River was Spider-Man. He was actually one of 3 different Spider-Mans at the party, going as the Spider-Man meme. I had no idea that I was being set up, but River, on the other hand, did. When we got to the party, he was the first person to wave and say hi to me. Everyone was so nice and welcoming, which made me immediately feel comfortable and open up. So of course, I do what any other girl who doesn't know she's being set up does: I sing karaoke. I don't know if it was my amazing costume or my angelic singing voice that made River think, "yep, she's the one." I was catching on to the fact that I was invited to meet River. We were partners in every game and lost every single one; it was foreshadowing all of our future euchre games. We laughed and paid no attention to anything around us; I was instantly smitten. I think it was obvious to everyone that we liked each other. As the night was coming to a close and people were about to start leaving, I was freaking out about how to get his number. I kept trying to ask my sister how I should do it, and she was just pushing me toward him. We were both awkwardly fumbling around the party until one of his brothers broke the ice by playing Kiss the Girl from The Little Mermaid. It should have been embarrassing, but it was really sweet. That's how you know it was meant to be. I finally got the nerve and brought him outside, where we were alone. I said, "I think it's kinda obvious this was a set-up, but that's okay because it worked." We got each other's numbers, and it was a very nice romantic moment. River told me later that he planned to kiss me, but the moment was interrupted by his brother, Rhett, coming outside to see if it was raining. Our romantic moment might have been short-lived, but it was the start of us being together. We started dating officially almost a week later.
