Nate and I met in Dallas, Texas when he moved in across the hall from me in our 4-plex house. I couldn't believe I had such a good-looking neighbor, but tried to play it cool. Our house hung out as a group regularly and Nate and I became really close friends. It soon became clear that we wanted to spend all of our free time together. After about a year and a half of being best buds, Nate FINALLY made a move! The rest is history and we are thrilled to get to say we are marrying our best friends!
If you know Abby you know that she loves surprises...as long as she knows where and when it's going to happen. Abby knew she'd never see my proposal coming. I thought it should be spontaneous--call me old fashioned--and if you know me, you know I love nothing more than a challenge. When it came time for me to pop the question I figured "hiding in plain sight" was my best bet. I began lying bread crumbs. Hyping up a concert we were going to, planning trips--leading her down the primrose path. Working with her assistant, Natalie, we began planning something that would truly surprise her. The first and most obvious step was to assume a fake identity and place a fake proposal inquiry into the Nasher. Going back and forth via email--of course--Abby began planning what she thought would be a normal proposal for an unsuspecting girl and her future husband. Little did she know she was actually planning her own proposal. When the day came I was a wreck. Nervously pacing and trying to decide if a beer or coffee would calm my nerves. Neither did. But in the car, I thought, "Let's just get psyched up" cue Ted Nuggent Stranglehold. I made my way out to the garden--the very garden we will be married in-- and there was a beautiful table set up with flowers, champagne, and a picture of our dog Archer with a conversation bubble saying "Mom. Dad has a question for you". Natalie--pregnant at the time--met me outside and called Abby to have her "come help her move this large table". When an unsuspecting Abby came out I popped out from behind the statue I was hiding behind. Clearly confused, her first words were "Nate. What are you doing? We have a propo..." and then the gears clicked, "this is my proposal". 'Cue waterworks'. I'll assume you know what happens next as you're on our wedding website and instead simply say that I'm humbled that God would put such an amazing woman in my life and that we get to spend the rest our lives together.
We couldn't think of a more special and beautiful place to have our ceremony and reception than the place where Nate proposed! I have been working at the Nasher as the Events Manager, so am overjoyed to be sharing our special day where I have come to feel at home with the people I consider to be family. The Nasher is a privately owned sculpture museum and garden in the heart of downtown Dallas. We will have our ceremony and reception under the stars and surrounded by the Dallas skyline, it will be a fun night of great food, music and company! We hope our many out of town guests will enjoy all that Dallas has to offer!
