FAQs

I understand that with travel and destination weddings, there are often a lot of questions. I’ve done my best to anticipate and answer as many as possible here. That said, it’s completely understandable if more come up along the way! While I’m happy to help when I can, I kindly ask that you direct your questions to Jessica Carey. Assisting with travel details is her expertise, and she’ll be able to provide quicker and more accurate answers than I can.
Question

When should I RSVP?

Answer

As this will be a destination wedding, we kindly ask that you let us know as soon as possible if you plan to attend or not. Early responses help us meet venue requirements and allow others ample time to plan and budget accordingly.

Question

Do I need a passport? Passport Expiration?

Answer

Yes! A valid passport is required to travel to Jamaica. Be sure to check your expiration date—passports must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your travel dates.

Question

What if I can't make it to Jamaica?

Answer

If traveling isn’t possible for you, we completely understand. We still want to celebrate together, which is why we’ll also be hosting a second reception in Maryland after the wedding. (Maryland Reception details will be sent out at a later date).

Question

Answer

Question

What food is offered at the resort?

Answer

I’ll be honest—I’m pretty picky when it comes to food, and in my experience, most all-inclusive resorts don’t always have the best quality or variety. That was one of my biggest concerns when considering where to have our wedding. But after doing a lot of research and reading tons of reviews, it’s clear that Sandals takes their dining experience seriously. I have provided the link to the website with the menus and a list of all the restaurants the resort has. https://www.sandals.com/south-coast/restaurants/ - Giuseppe's: Italian (Lunch or Dinner) - Jasmine's: Pan-Asian (Dinner only) - Blum: Coffee Cafe - Bayside: Buffet (Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner) - Schooner's: Caribbean (Lunch or Dinner) - Neptune's: Seafood (Dinner or Late Night) - The Jerk Shack: Authentic Jamaican (Lunch only) - Sushi on the Sand: Sushi (Dinner) - Chick' N Dippers Food Truck: American (Lunch only) - Butch's: Steakhouse

Question

How long is the trip?

Answer

As I mentioned, this trip is also your vacation, so please feel free to stay as long as you'd like! Just keep in mind that Sandals requires a minimum stay of three nights. Kyle and I will be staying for five nights—from Friday to Wednesday.

Question

Do I have to stay at Sandals?

Answer

Technically, no—guests may stay off property. However, please note that Sandals allows only 20% of wedding guests to stay off-site. If you're considering staying elsewhere, please notify Jessica as soon as possible to secure one of the limited off-site spots. Once we reach the 20% threshold, all remaining guests will be required to stay at Sandals. In addition, those guests will be required to purchase a day pass for the wedding day and arrange their own transportation to and from the resort.

Question

Where is the ceremony going to be held?

Answer

We’re so excited to be exchanging vows in the stunning Over-the-Water Chapel at Sandals South Coast. With panoramic ocean views and glass floor cut-outs revealing the blue waters below.

Question

Where will the reception be held?

Answer

We have not decided on a reception location (will be on Sandals resort) but will update as soon as possible. A perk to staying at the resort is you will have easy access to your room so please feel free to change into something more comfortable like shoes or even clothes during the cocktail hour because we will be partying all night long!

Question

Is there a dress code?

Answer

There is no strict dress code - wear beach formal/semi-formal attire. BUT we’d love for our guests to wear tropical colors (pinks, yellows, oranges, blues, reds) to complement the wedding’s theme, but please know it’s completely optional. Due to having a small wedding, we would like to try to get group pictures or at least one on one pictures with everyone!

Question

Can I bring a plus one?

Answer

Guests are welcome to bring a plus one with them to the resort; however, due to limited seating in the chapel, their attendance at the ceremony may not be guaranteed. Plus ones are absolutely invited to join us for the cocktail hour and reception—please just let us know in advance so we can be sure to reserve them a seat.

Question

Gifts/Registry?

Answer

We are so grateful for the effort you’ll be making to join us for a destination wedding. So please, no gifts!

Question

Can I take or post pictures?

Answer

Of course! However, we kindly ask that you join us in being fully present during our ceremony by keeping phones and cameras tucked away. We’re having an unplugged ceremony so we can all share in the moment together—our photographer will capture every special memory for us to share with you after! After the ceremony, pictures are completely acceptable.

Question

What is the weather in Jamaica?

Answer

In May, Jamaica's daytime temperatures average around 80–86°F. Our ceremony will be held in the chapel, which is a covered space to keep everyone comfortable and protected in case of rain.
