Gentry proposed New Year's Eve. The plan was to go for a walk after a nice dinner together, then go home and meet our families to bring in the New Year. However, I’m (Abby) nosey and knew something was going on. First off, Gentry didn't realize we would need a reservation for dinner at 5:45 pm on NYE. We quickly realized we did when the hostess at a restaurant (to not be named) looked at us like we had two heads when Gentry said we didn't have a reservation. We finally got a table at one of our favorite places “The Cellar” in downtown Newnan. Where our server pronounced pheasant as “peasant.” I highly recommend you try it if you’re in the area. After dinner, Gentry wanted to walk down to the park to “see the lights.” Once we got in the park, it's already pretty dark and hard to see. Gentry walks me out into the middle of the amphitheater they use for outdoor concerts and...nothing. Silence. He’s standing there holding my hand looking around like he’s waiting for some grand entrance. I start looking around, trying to figure out what he's looking around for, and that's when I see it... A dark blob crouching over a bush with an orange collar. “Why is Behr here?” I said laughing/crying because I had been waiting for this moment for two weeks. Gentry proceeds to try to call Behr over, but Behr had more important things to do like pee on all the bushes in the park. I then see someone walk out of the bushes holding their phone like they’re videoing us and I ask “is that Savannah?” “Nope that’s my Dad,” Gentry says sounding defeated. This is when he gets down on one knee and asks me to marry him. We laughed and cried and then took awkwardly possed pictures in the dark. It was perfect and I wouldn't change a thing. P.S. Behr left the house wearing a sign that said: “will you marry my dad.” He was supposed to run up to us with it on. It fell off. The one thing we can always count on is the laughter we share together. Can't wait to spend forever with you Gentry.
