Things To Do

Want to see more of North Carolina while you are already here? From the mountains to the coast, NC is truly a haven for vacations. Relax on a beach, or explore the mountains to see the best that this incredible state has to offer! Please, let Abby know if you are interested in exploring the region. There are not enough space on this page to fit all of our recommendations (and not-recommendations)

Greensboro

NC

1. Get Outside: The watershed trails in north Greensboro offer a lot of good trail and good views. Owls Roost is a favorite of ours! It is a hybrid 5 mile (total) loop that follows Lake Brandt, with a 1 mile greenway back to the parking lot. (you do not have to hike all 5 miles, you can go in and out if you want) Check Alltrails!! 2. UNCG's campus: It's where we met! Tip: Park on Tate St., walk to College Ave/ the Library and explore. 3. Coffee Shops: Greensboro does coffee RIGHT. Here are a few - The Borough, Union, Common Grounds, and Chandlers are some favorites. 4. Food: in order of favorites - Sticks & Stones, Jerusalem Market, Hops, Crafted, Natty Greens, Cookout (from Elliot's nearby hometown, Thomasville!) 5. Breweries & Bars: A fun scene in Greensboro is the 'South End'. Our recommendation: Start at South End for food and a beer, hop over to Box car for some games and a full bar, next door is The Quarter, a *Disney level decor* New Orleans theme bar, or the Bearded Goat!

The Mountains

NC

Asheville | 2 hours from GSO This is a funky mountain town! *almost guaranteed to have good weather due to its rain shadow effect from the mountains. -Hiking: Anywhere in Pisgah Natl. Forest, Nantahala, (Black Balsalm Knob has rhododendron in June!) -Eat: Chai Pani - The best food I've ever had. -Drink: The Funkatorium is a Wicked Weed location, home of the Pernicious. Also, New Belgium Brewing has a great view of the river. -Tour: The Biltmore is popular! The Omni Grove Park in a free option to experience the castle feel, and a great spot to watch the sunset with a glass of wine on the patio! -Do: The Jackson County Fly Fishing Trail is awesome. Hire a guide! Nantahala National Forest | 4 hours from GSO -This is the ULTIMATE mountain experience. Google the Nantahala Outdoor Center. There are some incredible airbnb's out here. This is true, and pure Appalachia. Ask Abby about the tourist traps to avoid.

The Beaches

NC

The Outer Banks truly IS just as amazing as it is portrayed. The beach towns in NC each have their own distinct personalities, while sharing the same white sand beaches, turquoise water, and 7 stunning lighthouses!  Quaint Beach Town Vibe:  Beaufort, NC | 4 Hours from GSO  -Abby's pick: Stop at a fruit stand, dance on the boardwalk next to yachts. See wild island horses, Relax in Cape Lookout National Seashore & Lighthouse's calm shallow waters for the best beach day ever. Adventure: kayak & camp on the the national seashore. Rural Beach Vibe Hatteras / Ocracoke | 5 Hours from GSO This is where we got engaged! This is the true, pure Outer Banks. Very chill. We have a great Airbnb recommendation here! The long haul is worth it!  Dream Beach City Vibe Wilmington | 3 hours from GSO  This city has it all. Great nightlife and beach bars, incredible food, stunning beaches, great surfing. Like an East Coast San Diego!  Ask Abby about the tourist traps to avoid.
