Cal and Abby grew up nine hours apart from each other. Abby moved from Indiana to North Carolina, when she was eight, and Cal grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Abby was a competitive dancer and participated in her high school’s musical theater program. Cal, on the other hand, grew up playing many sports, such as basketball and football, but his biggest passion was baseball. Both Abby and Cal were thrilled to attend North Carolina State University after graduating high school in 2018. Abby went to NC State to major in Elementary Education, while Cal came to continue his baseball career. Cal and Abby had Biology class together during their first semester of freshman year. Since it was a large lecture hall, they didn’t meet in that class. Unfortunately, midway through his freshman year, Cal sustained an injury that prevented him from continuing his baseball career. However, he decided to stay involved with the baseball program by becoming the team’s manager. Halfway through sophomore year, the COVID era began, and junior year was entirely online. The summer before senior year, Abby and Cal were set up by a mutual friend who knew they would hit it off right away. Although Abby was nervous, her mom encouraged her to go, and she did (thank goodness). They met up at Drive Shack in Raleigh with three other couples. Abby and Cal had a great time talking that night, and Cal asked Abby out on a date. Their first date was at Partee Shack, followed by Sushi Blues. The date went so well that it lasted four hours! They both felt like they had known each other their whole lives. Now, almost four years later, they are still together and can’t wait to live happily ever after!
