FAQs

Question

What's the dress code?

Answer

We haven't found a concise way to say this but the dress code is basically anything from nice-looking casual to cocktail attire. Ladies, think sundresses or cocktail dresses, pantsuits if you prefer pants, etc. Men, think button downs and dress pants, ties and jackets optional. We want you to be comfortable! We could not care less what young children wear. Put them in whatever will make them not filled with rage, and whatever you don't mind potentially getting stained if they play in the grass just outside our reception area. (We don't have to tell anyone not to wear a white dress... right?)

Question

Where is this place?

Answer

We're getting married at Ryan Acres, a beautiful rustic venue in Oneonta, AL. Options for places to stay very close by are pretty limited. We recommend looking at hotels or Airbnb's anywhere in the downtown Birmingham area, Gardendale or Fultondale to the north, or Hoover or Vestavia Hills to the south. It'll be around a 45-55 minute drive from any of those places.

Question

I don't see any physical gifts on your registry!

Answer

That's not really a question, but we will answer it anyway. We are two people well into independent adulthood and therefore already have two entire households of belongings. We do not want or need any more items in our life. Generally, your presence is the present! PLEASE do not feel obligated to get us a wedding gift, especially if you had to travel any appreciable distance to attend. If you insist, please see the Registry link on this site to contribute to our dream honeymoon in Hawaii. We're going in April of next year, and can't wait to hike volcanoes, take surfing lessons, and drink fruity cocktails on the beach. We even plan to run a half marathon on Oahu together while we're there. We would be extremely grateful for any monetary gifts that help this happen for us!

Question

Are my kids invited?

Answer

If we invited you, your children are also welcome if you wish to bring them (though we expect some will stay home to give the parents a fun night out!). Just let us know when you RSVP who to expect. We hope to set up some yard games (cornhole, etc.). For nursing moms, you are welcome to use Abby's private bridal suite (with fridge and bathroom), immediately adjacent to our reception building.

Question

What are some things to do in the area?

Answer

If you have some extra time on your hands, Birmingham is a really fun place! The Birmingham Zoo and Botanical Gardens are both worth a visit. The Birmingham Museum of Art has free admission all day every day! The McWane Science Center is very fun, especially if you have young children. If you're looking for an athletic activity, we love rock climbing at Birmingham Boulders, or hiking at Red Mountain or Oak Mountain. Also, Birmingham's food scene is far better than it has any right to be for the size of the city! Here are our faves: Breweries: Trim Tab, Good People, Ghost Train, Monday Night Brewing Bars: Juniper, Adios, Pilcrow, Tucana, Paramount (barcade), Up-Down (barcade) Casual Restaurants: Saw's BBQ (many locations), Jack Brown's, Rojo, Rougaroux Medium Nice Restaurants: El Barrio, Shu Shop, Luna, Blue Sushi Really Nice Restaurants: Automatic Seafood, Bayonet, Current Charcoal Grill, Helen
