How We Met

It all started with a dance...

Anurag and Abby met while social dancing at Century Ballroom in Capitol Hill. Anurag had been taking salsa lessons at Century Ballroom and was there to practice his skills; Abby had discovered ballroom dancing in college and was always looking for friends she could convince to go dancing. When Anurag asked Abby to dance, neither had any idea that they had just met their lifelong dance partner. After an hour and a half of dancing and chatting, Anurag asked Abby for her number, claiming to want to learn to ice skate. Thanks to an icebreaking picture of freshly-picked blueberries, they started texting the next day. After texting for hours, they arranged their first date at a sushi restaurant in the University District. Two weeks later, they made their relationship official at the top of the Space Needle and their love story began.

The Proposal

Anurag and Abby arranged to take a trip to Port Angeles with some friends over Memorial Day weekend in May 2024. While Abby always assumed she would know when he was getting ready to propose, she had no idea that he had spent the two months leading up to the trip planning the proposal with their friends. Thanks to suggestions from one of Abby's friends, Anurag tried to convince Abby to bring nice clothes to wear on their lake hike. Abby did not take the hint, maintaining that it would not be practical to wear a nice dress on a day they were planning to hike around a lake. Once at the lake, the group set off in search of a scenic spot called Devil's Punchbowl. Before reaching the desired spot, Anurag found a large rock overlooking the water. He walked out on the rock as Abby directed him to pose for a picture. Instead, he called her onto the rock as well, which Abby assumed was so that they could take a picture together. Instead of turning to stand next to her for the picture, he turned to face her and knelt down on one knee. Their friends were standing by to capture photo and video of the occasion. Of course, Abby immediately said yes! Only then did Anurag remember the ring that had been in his pocket for the entire hike.
