I was working in Wichita and Wes was attending Wichita State for his masters, the same program as my sister, Erin was in. Erin wanted to go watch a movie at the Old Town Warren because it was cheap movie night and Wes was going to meet us there. All it took was one movie and one dumb attempt of flirtation (on my end) and that was it.
Wes picked me up from the airport after I got back from a wedding in Missouri. We had to make a trip to Loveland to pick up the last of our things at the house and then drive down to Berthoud to drop off the house keys at our relator's house. Per tradition, we headed to the baseball field to let Moose run around one last time before heading back home to the mountains. Moose is running around, thoroughly enjoying himself. Wes and I are standing around and he hugs me and says I Love You. I say I Love You Too, thinking we were just happy to see each other again. He then says "I have something for you..." For some reason I thought he got me my favorite soda for the ride home....oh no. It was a little box marked Zales. Cue the happy tears and him down on one knee tearing up (making me cry more) and asking me to marry him. The special part of this proposal was that it happened on the baseball field. For the majority of our dating thus far, we spent many days and nights at that field between games, practices, and hanging out with friends. It will always hold a special place in our hearts.
