In May of 2019, Abbie’s alma mater, Roger Williams University, held its annual commencement ball for graduating seniors - known affectionately to students as ‘college prom’. Abbie had an extra ticket to the ball and offered it up to her roommate’s boyfriend, Joe Orlando, to bring a friend for the night to keep him company. Joe (along with his now wife Maggie Sabella-Orlando) made the very smart decision to invite Zach and the two ventured from UMass Lowell to Rhode Island for the weekend. Abbie and Zach made it very clear this was NOT a date - just a free ticket and a fun night with friends. Despite efforts to keep things casual, the two ended the night slow dancing to Elvis’s Can’t Help Falling in Love. Abbie and Zach’s wonderful friends found more moments to bring the two together with beach days and time exploring places like Mattapoisett, Martha’s Vineyard, and areas around Boston. By the 4th of July in 2019 the two could no longer pretend this was just a casual fling and the rest is history. We are so thankful for the people in our lives who recognized the good in both of us and helped to bring us together. Good things come when you least expect it - and if you see Maggie and Joe around give them a big thanks for us!
