Shawn and Abbie’s story began three years ago on a normal summer night in June. Abbie was a senior in college visting her sister in Florida for the week and Shawn was doing his normal Friday night routine at The Block; neither one of them looking for love, just a fun night out in town. Abbie had just walked into the country bar, having just enough time to grab a beer before Shawn approached her asking her to dance. Uninterested, Abbie kindly denied Shawn’s invitation with “I don’t know how to dance” hoping that would be a good enough excuse, but Shawn being the persistent man he is, didn’t accept that answer and quickly replied with, “Neither can I” while grabbing Abbie’s hand and dragging her on the dance floor, leading to a night full of laughter. From that night on, Abbie and Shawn knew they were meant for each other, but knew that they had many obstacles to overcome; the main one being distance. Abbie attended college 6.5 hours away and Shawn was stationed in Crestivew, FL leaving over 400 miles of distance between them. While this made Abbie hesitant Shawn wasn’t phased at all just shrugging it off and reponding with, “I like to drive”. So over the next year and a half, while Abbie worked on finishing her Bachelors, Shawn drove the 6.5 hours every weekend, just to spend a few hours together. Abbie knew then she had found the one she was meant to spend her life with. Over the span of three years Abbie and Shawn spent more nights apart than they did together, but the distance that was placed between them just made their love that much stronger, showing that distance can’t stop what’s meant to be. Shawn and I look back on that night we met and just shake our heads in amazement. We truly can’t believe how all our life decisions and every choice we had made previously brought both of us there together at just the right moment and we are so grateful for every road we took that led us to one another.
