Our Story

08/28/2018

So funny story, Kyla followed Abbie on social media years before we actually met, knew who she was, and we had multiple mutual friends. Abbie had no idea who Kyla was, until they both decided to attend the same university and ended up in the same dorm. Abbie walked into the first dorm meeting late *as always* and noticed Kyla, but didn't pay much attention to her... UNTIL it was Kyla's turn to introduce herself and she said her hometown was Drayton, ND which is 30 minutes away from Abbie's hometown, Cavalier, ND. It wasn't until a few days later that some "college festivities" were going to take place in Abbie's room and Kyla walked in and immediately started confessing her liking for Abbie- REPEATEDLY telling Abbie how pretty she was and how she used to follow Abbie on Instagram but "unfollowed her because she was too good for her feed". It was pretty much history after that. We became best friends until the feelings grew and grew and we ended up drunkenly kissing in our dorm bathroom after Abbie had just tossed her cookies because she lost a drinking game. We both knew it wasn't just some drunk kiss and Abbie tried to play it off by sending Kyla the link to "I Kissed a Girl" by Katy Perry. We eventually talked and realized things were heading in a much more serious route and that we had a choice to make, to either date and be in it for the long run or not and sit wondering what could've been. We both knew in our hearts what we wanted and even more so when we went home for Christmas break that year. Lucky for us, our hometowns were so close to each other that we were practically inseparable. We went last minute Christmas shopping and Abbie knew she had to make it official 5 days before Christmas. Since then we have moved out of the dorms, lived in an apartment, became cat moms, finishing our last few semesters of school, and now...GETTING MARRIED!!

Abbie's Proposal

03/14/21

Abbie: I think the universe knew Kyla was my person before I did. Shortly after Kyla and I met we became best friends. We spent most of our days hanging out in each other’s rooms, meeting in the Cafe, talking in between classes, or driving around the backroads of Mayville, ND. One day while we were driving around, I excitedly told Kyla that I wanted her to be in my wedding one day. A few months later, I asked Kyla to be my girlfriend and then soon realized that she was the person I wanted to spend the rest of my life with. I began dreaming of how I was going to propose to her, and I kept thinking back to the day I told her I wanted her to be in my wedding. The memory was so vivid, and I knew the exact location of where that conversation took place. I knew that was the place I was going to ask her to marry me. We have always talked about waiting to get married until we were finished with school and established in our careers, but we both felt like 2021 was the right time to tie the knot. After looking at rings and ordering the perfect one, I began planning. The location was some random gravel road and about 10 minutes from our apartment, I had to figure out how I was going to get her out there without her actually knowing what was going on. I decided to leave her a note telling her to put on an outfit I had picked out and that I would be coming to pick her up to go on an adventure. When I picked her up and blindfolded her, got her in the car, and a recording of my voice and meaningful songs played over the speakers while we drove to the location. When she took off her blindfold...at this point I blacked out and really don't remember what I said- I know it went something like: I told you I wanted you to be in my wedding one day...little did I know you were going to be a bride...will you marry me? However, I do know that she said yes! We then proceeded to call and let family and friends know of our exciting news and have a date at Texas Roadhouse.

Kyla's Proposal

03/19/21

Right from the beginning, I knew that I had a big crush on Abbie. After we began hanging out more, we became very close friends and I knew that I wanted her in my life forever, but I didn't know how important she would become. After being close friends for a couple months we both knew that our friendship was turning into something more serious, and fast forward... we started dating! Marriage didn't cross my mind when we first started dating, but man, did that change only a couple months into our relationship! We both knew we wanted to get married, but we are both still in school and we had always said that the best option for us was to wait until we graduated to start thinking about getting married. Abbie had explained her dream proposal to me back when we first became friends, so I knew what she wanted. Her dream was to have the location where she was proposed to, in a private and intimate area, with a photographer capturing the whole thing. This information confirmed to me that I needed to step out of my comfort zone when planning the perfect proposal, so I began searching for a small business photographer in our area. I got in touch with one and picked a date for the proposal! Little did I know, the week that I was planning Abbie's proposal, she was planning to propose to me! I had planned her proposal for the weekend right after she proposed to me, and you can only imagine how impatient she was! I made arrangements with her mom and brother to arrive at the location, a park in downtown Fargo, to set up some decorations, Abbie and I arrived shortly after that. To be quite honest, the whole thing was a complete blur! I tried to be as romantic and intimate as I could and I had a whole speech planned out, but I forgot the whole thing because I was so nervous. After the proposal, (Abbie said yes of course) we both admitted to each other that we had completely forgotten what each other had said, but the only thing that mattered was that we both were engaged!
