We recommend arriving on Friday night and staying through Monday morning. We chose this weekend for our wedding because of the weather and because that Monday is a bank holiday so we hoped people could maximize their time with us while minimizing unexpected time off work. By arriving Friday you'll have all day Saturday to relax, enjoy the area and hang out with the couple and friends, Sunday for wedding festivities, and Monday for traveling home.
We are getting married in the heart of the Ghost Town. Our ceremony will be in the Terlingua Chapel, up the hill and to the right if you're facing the Starlight Theater restaurant, and our reception venue will be the Perry Mansion, up the hill and to the left if you're facing the Starlight Theater. We will designate a couple of drivers to shuttle our elders and anyone who would prefer not to make the quarter mile walk between the two, and the rest of us will walk and make merry in a procession after the ceremony.
Please do! We love you and your littles and would love for everyone to be able to experience this landscape and special time out of time together. When it gets a little later during the reception the mother of the bride will be putting on a movie for the kids in one of the rooms of the venue so parents can kick back and enjoy the starlit night with peace of mind that the kids are safe and sound nearby.
First and foremost be sure to bring drinking water and snacks for the trip out here, just in case. The Ghost Town is in the desert and the nearest Dollar General or anything similar is 80 miles away in Alpine. There are several restaurants and a convenience store nearby but if possible you'll probably want to pack some food to make meals in your room on the lazy days, and be sure to read all details of your accommodations online to know what you're getting into. Options for your stay range from tent camping to fully operational houses and everything in between. There will be a full kitchen at the Perry Mansion but we'll be making all the food for the big day there so be aware of that. We also recommend you bring plenty of sunscreen, bug spray, toilet paper because you never know, a flashlight and first aid kit.
The short answer is whatever makes you comfortable :) The long answer is there are a few factors to help determine what will make you most comfortable. Be aware that the reception will be in an outdoor area on large rock gravel. The average temperature in Terlingua in October ranges from a low of 57 F to a high of 86 F, usually landing somewhere in the perfect middle of that range with only a historical 8% chance of rain any given day.
