Cole and I were seniors in high school when we got each other's number. We went to different schools, so we started texting a few days before we initially met- I wanted to make sure he wasn't a serial killer. He was in Arizona for baseball for a few days and we talked the whole time. By the time he was supposed to come home, we decided we were invested enough to meet in person. His flight was due to arrive in Oklahoma City at 10pm so that would put him in my hometown of Sherman at midnight. We thought that that would be the perfect time to go get a snack and meet at Whatabuger. It turned out that the flight was late and we really didn't get to meet until 3 am. I told my mom I was going to get "breakfast with friends". He brought one of his baseball buddies from the trip that I also knew and we all sat in a booth and made awkward small talk for about an hour. When he finally decided to go our seperate ways, Cole walked me to my car and planted the most awkward first kiss on me. I am not the kind of girl to kiss on a first date, but looking back now, I guess Cole did something right.
I began to anticipate Cole proposing to me starting on my 21st birthday in my junior year of college. During our senior year, my anticipation only grew with each event that could solicit a proposal. To Cole's credit, my one request about this event was that I didn't want to know it was coming, and I sure was not expecting it. Cole and I had planned to head back to Stillwater for our last semester at Oklahoma State on Friday, January 12. On Thursday he texted me and told me he was going to come to Sherman to tell some of my family members bye before we left town, but that he would come to my house for a bit before he went back to Bonham. I didn't think anything of the situation at this point. That was until my brother got home and asked why Cole was at the office talking to my dad with the door shut for two hours. He then asked me, "Is he asking for your hand in marriage??" Hearing that made me start to question if that truly was the case, but I just shook it off because I knew Cole would be arriving soon. Once he got there, everything was normal. We spent time with my family and things were natural. After about an hour, Cole said he was going to leave so that he could make it to a family dinner. We said our goodbyes and he went on his way. Twenty minutes go by and I get a phone call from none other than Cole. He said, "Hey, I am going to come back by your house. Come outside in five minutes and wear your jacket." I asked if he forgot anything and he said no and that he just needed to talk to me. I got a bit nervous at this point, but followed his instructions. Once ouside, he hugged me and began to explain that after he left, he got sad because he realized he didn't want to spend another minute without me and I realized what was happening. I kept asking, "Is this real? This isn't actually happening?" He said many other sweet things then dropped to one knee to ask me to marry him. Of course I said yes!
