We met virtually 4 years ago while we were both working for Google. Andrew had just joined a team I worked closely with, so his manager had scheduled a call to introduce us. We instantly hit it off and started working together on projects on a daily basis. Fast forward a year later; we met face to face in Zion National Park as I was road tripping through the national parks with my Dad (yes our “first date” was chaperoned by Deano). We clicked even more in person than we did over Google Meet. We both knew we had feelings for each other at this point, but we both were too scared to admit it. We didn’t want to risk ruining our friendship and making things complicated at work.
At the end of August 2021 I had just moved to Austin to join a new team at Google and jokingly told Andrew that he should come visit! Much to my surprise, he was planning a trip to Austin with some of his best friends for his birthday in October. The first night of the trip, after a little liquid courage, he finally made a move! Since that weekend, we’ve been together ever since <3
On our 2 week Europe vacation this past summer, Andrew thoughtfully planned out a surprise to propose in the beautiful Algarve coast in southern Portugal. Night three of our vacation, Andrew told me he wanted to go take photos at a famous beach, Praia de Marinha, right down the street from our hotel before dinner. Check out the beautiful picture of the beach below that Andrew's sister Caroline painted us as an engagement present! After I got ready, we drove to the beach, parked, and were sneakily followed by a photographer Andrew had hired to capture the moment. It was PACKED and we walked down the entire beach before Andrew found a semi private spot to pop the big question as a group of kayakers slowly paddled by clapping and cheering. It was of course a YES! We celebrated at an incredible restaurant tucked between the rocks on the coast of the Algarve at sunset. It was the perfect night :)
