Our story began years ago in our hometown of Clarkston, Washington. Back then, we were just the “dorky little sister” and the kind DECA partner who spent a lot of time at the house. Eventually, we grew up and went our separate ways—Abbi to high school and college, and Zach through college and various social work roles before finding his path in the corporate world. Fast forward twenty years, through numerous jobs, apartments, moves across states (and even countries, in Abbi’s case), and a pandemic. Unbeknownst to one another, we both landed back in Spokane. Abbi had returned to continue her career as a teacher, sharing her passion for biology with her students, while Zach had moved back to pursue a degree in school counseling. On a whim, Zach decided to attend his high school reunion, hoping to reconnect with old friends. One of those people happened to be Abbi’s older sister, Jenni. During the festivities, Zach asked Jenni what her younger sister was up to and if she was back in the States. After a quick update on how incredible she was (Jenni's words), Zach had a plan: he “slid into her DMs” the very next day. Abbi, being a savvy 21st-century woman, wasn’t entirely sure it was a date and even made an exit plan to meet friends for trivia just in case Zach turned out to be a dud. Luckily, we enjoyed ourselves so much that we lost track of time, and Abbi ended up being late for trivia. Zach bravely joined her, jumping in headfirst to meet her friends and proving he would follow her anywhere. By the end of the night, a second date was set. Then came a third and a fourth—and we have been going on dates ever since. Hikes, concerts, camping trips, and even more trivia followed, all filled with the laughter and joy we’ve shared since that first date on August 15th. We quickly realized we were simply better together. Not long after—and with Lola’s approval—Abbi and Lola opened their home to Zach. The home Abbi bought for Lola is small, but all of Zach’s records fit, and Lola is happy (most days) to share the bed. Since that first date, we have supported one another through all of life’s highs and lows. Through it all, we have found a profound connection and a deepening love, ensuring the other always feels seen and special. We are so excited to start this next chapter as husband and wife and to continue growing together in love and life.
