We were both in marching band in college and knew of each other. I thought he was cute but didn't do anything about it. A few years later, we matched on online dating and went out on a "date" with his friends. I distinctly remember playing a Jack-Box game with them where two people had to make up answers to questions and the others would vote on the "best" answer. Dakota and I each got the question - "What's the worst thing to put on top of a cake?" I said nothing, because cake is great. Dakota said "a wedding topper". Great start. Despite this, I gave him a second chance and I'm pretty glad I did. ;)
Being in Band of Blue together we knew of each other but, didn't really hang out at all. One day years later we matched on a dating app even though I wasn't really looking for a relationship at the time. She messaged me. I decided "why not she cute". One of the best decisions I've ever made.
We originally had plans to visit a friend of Dakota's in Boulder, CO over Abbi's spring break. The proposal plan involved waking up early to go on a sunrise hike. Well, the Coronavirus quickly canceled those plans. On what would have been our first day of driving, after pulling a pizza out of the oven for dinner, Dakota proposed on the couch. "Life is filled with big moments on sunrise hikes, but it's also filled with little moments like eating pizza on the couch." Perfect.
