We swiped right on Bumble! Very #millenial of us. It turned out we were neighbors and we instantly connected over our faith, involvement in youth ministries, and love for travel and adventure. There was also plenty of razzing each other’s football team! (Hook 'Em!) I was in the middle of my grad school finals at the time and have since learned that he not-so-patiently waited for me to take him up on his offer for a second date. We had so much fun exploring Dallas together on dates and he really won me over with a late night viewing of a Monet exhibit at the Kimbell art museum in Fort Worth! The rest is history!
Wow, what a day! If you know Abbey, you know that she hates being the center of attention. She is never one to want to celebrate herself, but man, oh man is she so worth celebrating everyday. Planning her engagement was an incredible team effort with so many family and friends jumping in to help make sure her day was special. The hardest part was trying to keep it a surprise which I am just the absolute worst at! After a few close calls we finally made it to November 7th. It was her Grandfather's birthday which was the perfect excuse to get her to Houston without too much suspicion, although she definitely had a hunch something was up. We spent a lot of the day trying to throw her off the trail to make sure the surprise was secure. Between me avoiding her and her family keeping a straight face, we did such a good job that she ended up calling me in tears! While it was tough to be so mean, I knew the surprise would be so worth it. The location was absolutely perfect! It was at Menil Park in Houston that just so happened to have a near perfect replica of the Century Tree in College Station (Whoop!). We had a trail of flowers leading to the proposal spot under the tree where there were some of our favorite pictures of us set up. Strung up on the tree limbs were screenshots of our bumble conversation to make it uniquely ours (#2020). I don't think I had ever been so nervous in my life. However, when she finally arrived, all that turned into sheer joy. I had a big long speech written out telling her exactly how I felt. To this day, I have no idea if I actually made it through the whole thing. I really just wanted to skip to the end. She said yes!
We hope to see you there!
