Michael and Abbey each called Crossroads Church home for several years before 2018. On Friday, July 13, 2018 Crossroads Oakley hosted a Singles Event. Over a game of "Conversation Bingo" Abbey and Michael discussed podcasts and Kanye West lyrics, not typically topics where sparks fly, but the connection was there. Abbey was a unusually nervous that evening and shied away from giving Michael her number at the end of the conversation. Immediately she told her friend Mickaela, "I just had a great conversation, but I chickened out on giving the guy my number." Mickaela gave Abbey an encouraging (but stern) talk and told her to walk right over to the guy and exchange numbers. Mickaela played wingwoman while Abbey worked up the courage. A week later Abbey and Michael were on their first date at the Blind Lemon in Mt. Adams enjoying live music and a cocktail. They hopped next door for a bite to eat at Mt. Adams Bar and Grill. The next several weeks included lots of fun dates - church festivals, movies in Washington Park, and dinners with friends. In this time Abbey and Michael began to realize they had complementing personalities, common interests, and a deep love for God. The months that followed were full of growing love, joy, and lots of time together. It was clear to both Abbey and Michael that they wanted to spend forever together. Abbey even thought she was a getting an engagement ring for Christmas, but got a ramen noodle cooker instead - ask her about this one, she LOVES to tell the story! In May 2019 Michael and Abbey were passing time in their favorite way, playing a game of cards, when Michael asked Abbey if they could spend their lives together. It was the easiest question Abbey ever answered. They are counting down the days to Friday, December 13, 2019 to celebrate their love with friends and family as they become Happily Ever Abbott.
