Lucky had been working on a date to the lantern festival for months, where he planned to propose; however, it kept getting rescheduled due to weather concerns. On the day we thought it was definitely going to happen, it was canceled once again, but that allowed us to go to our nieces' dance recital! On the way, we had ridden in Lucky's Miata on a beautiful day with the top down; the weather was absolute perfection (which is rare for NC, especially in May). We stopped at Subway on the way for a quick bite, and Abbey had a feeling that he was going to pop the question that day. She didn't know why, but as they walked in, she asked, "Are you going to propose to me today?" His heart sank, and he replied, "No," and went to the bathroom to call his mom and come up with a plan to throw her off the scent. During their lunch, it started to downpour out of nowhere, and Lucky sprinted to the car to throw the top up and check the glove box...hint hint ;). On the way to the recital, he had his mom call Abbey on "accident" and say, "I got the title for the Miata signed, are you guys almost here?" to make Abbey believe he secretly bought her a Miata, and he was successful. He asked her to close her eyes once they were in Monroe and pulled onto a side street, and helped her out of the car and guided her in front of their car and got down on one knee, and told her to open her eyes. All thoughts of the new car fled her mind when she saw him on his knee before her. She was so excited that she was right about Luckly finally asking her to marry him that all she could do was scream, "I KNEW IT!!" and the poor man couldn't get a word out. Once she settled down, he asked if she knew where they were, and she had no idea. To her, it didn't matter where they were at the time where they were because of how excited she was. Lucky had brought them to the place where they met, yes, it was on a street in a neighborhood, but all that mattered was how incredible it was that he remembered and was able to plan his proposal within a day. She recognized it once he explained, then he went on to speak words the couple will cherish together in private. When he was finished, she said yes, and he was too slow for her, so she took the ring from the box and put it on her finger herself without even realizing.
