John and Abbey met in June 2021 when they both began attending a weekly Catholic young adult group - known as Lectio Divina - at Saint Joseph Cathedral in Manchester. While they didn’t talk to each other all that much at first - Abbey was the “girl who would always sit by the snacks” and John was the “nerdy looking guy in glasses” - their friendship began to grow over the months. From running club, to going out for drinks with friends after Lectio, to many fun gatherings in between, they found themselves constantly together. In August of 2022, after running with friends at the Bedford High School track, John asked Abbey on a date. And they lived happily ever after, right? WRONG! Abbey and John went on a few dates for about three weeks until Abbey got cold feet and decided it was best that they stay friends and go their separate ways…except “going separate ways” looked like hanging out just as much if not more. After a month of this, Abbey began to see that John wasn’t just another guy to hang with. He was mature, kindhearted, and everything she’d hoped for in a man. So, at the end of yet another running hangout with friends, when they were alone at their cars, she told him, “You know, if you ask me out again, I will say yes.” John did, and in another three weeks, they became official on October 29th - the feast day of one of Abbey’s patron saints, Blessed Chiara Luce. Fast forward a year to December 27, 2023, the feast of Saint John the Apostle, John asked Abbey to marry him at Sainte Anne-de-Beaupré in Québec. Now, they look forward to becoming Mr. and Mrs. Prud’homme!
