I was in my 9th month of Cosmetology school in Bismarck. Cyril was in his first year of school and hockey at the University of Mary. He was very much in need of a haircut and wasn't sure where to go. He thought he'd try the hair school that was only a few blocks from the hockey house. He was just paired with whoever was open at the time that day. They told me that my haircut had arrived so I peeked around the corner and saw him sitting in the chair. I saw a tall dark haired handsome man so of course I got nervous. I wasn't sure at all how to pronounce his name so I just walked up to him and said "Hi I'm ready for you". He wasn't picky about his hair just wanted it shorter and cleaned up which made me feel a lot better. We small talked about where he's from and where I'm from. I finally asked him how he pronounces his name because I'd never heard it before. He said he had a hockey game that night. I had maybe only been to 2 other hockey games in my entire life so I didn't know much about it. He had said I should come to a game sometime and check it out. I was washing his hair and had to make sure my shampoo and massage was one of the best. I must've succeeded because he said so. I finished the haircut and walked him to the front to check out. He paid and then we looked at each other again and I said "Thanks for coming in". He said "Thank you" and walked out the door. He never tipped me for his $8 haircut and still to this day I hold that against him. I got butterflies watching him walking away hoping I'd see him again. He ended up scoring his first college goal that night. So all in all it was a day to remember. Cyril found me on social media and we started talking from then on. Talking lead to hanging out more and more and we've been inseparable ever since.
We were in Boston, MA for Cyril's national hockey tournament. They had a late game that day so we had the whole morning free and were looking for something to do. Cyril is big into sports and stadiums so he had the idea to go on a tour of Fenway Park. We ended up being able to buy tickets so we drove into the city to go. We were walking through some of the original stadium chairs and the tour guide told us all to take a seat as he was going to tell us a story. After that was done I stood up and realized I was sitting in the seat #14 which is Cyril's lucky number which has slowly turned into mine too. I thought that was so cool and what a coincidence. We kept on with the tour and went to the "green monster" which is the nickname for the 37 foot 2 inch high left field wall. The view from the seats there was beautiful. We stood up and walked back to the top to take a picture with the view of the stadium and home plate and tall City buildings in the background. Cyril's mom and sister were taking pictures for us with my phone and hers. After what felt like a minute of smiling of the picture they still had their phones up. I said "So did you get the picture?" Then all of a sudden I turned to my right and Cyril was down on one knee with the biggest grin and happiest look I've ever seen. If you know Cyril you know he doesn't get nervous about nothing. His voice was shaking as he asked me to marry him and spend the rest of my life with him. I can say wholeheartedly I have never been that surprised in my entire life. I was in shock for quite a few seconds and kept saying "WHAT!" then finally said "YES". We are so close to where I can read Cyril and know what he's feeling and I still can't believe he played it off so well. Everyone in our group was in on it and it was the best surprise ever. I couldn't even focus on the rest of the tour without looking at my hand. Also fun fact Cyril brought the ring with to Boston in his backpack and truly had no intention on proposing but the opportunity just presented itself. It was such a special moment at such a special place
