How We Met

January 2017

Ok so for truth's sake, Billy first introduced himself to Abbey sometime in the fall of 2016. He just walked up to her and some friends after church and said hello. Billy thought she was cute. Abbey thought he was friendly. Not much else to report... The story takes off in January 2017, after Billy joins the young adult bible study Abbey led out of her apartment in Tacoma. Billy still thinks Abbey is cute, but Abbey isn’t sure what to think of him. Nonetheless, they get to know each other and begin spending time together with mutual friends. As the months go on, Billy keeps nearly perfect attendance at bible study and Abbey's is just too scared to admit she likes him. Fast forward through many painstakingly awkward conversations, and Billy decides to ask Abbey out to lunch. (Its a miracle!!) He says- "Hey, I know you're going out of town soon, but I'd like to grab lunch sometime. I think you are really smart and wise, and it would be fun to get to know you better." She says- "I might be busy." Abbey plays it cool but quickly clears her schedule. They go out for the first time the following week. (It a second miracle!!) Neither Billy nor Abbey had high hopes the date would go well, but both are pleasantly surprised by how much they enjoy talking to the other. That evening Billy sends Abbey a text which reads, "Hey, that was a lot more fun then I thought it was going to be." Abbey replies "Same."

How He Asked

09.28.2018

In the spring of 2018 Abbey told Billy she had a dream that he had proposed to her. However, in this dream, they got all dressed up, and he took her to the Tesla dealership--- because it was the fanciest place in Seattle. At the dealership, he asked her to marry him with a homemade paper ring, and she said yes. Billy was relieved. At least she had obtainable expectations. A few months later it was time to make this dream a reality. Well, at least the proposal part. Billy mapped out the perfect evening for them with dinner, jazz music, and a walk by the waterfront--- for the record, all of this was nicer than a car dealership. At the end of their date, Billy took Abbey to the Seattle Sculpture Park. They walked down by the water and make their way onto the grounds before the park closes. At this point, Abbey is under the impression that Billy wants to see the sculptures, logically, she tries to rush him through the exhibits so they can see everything before they have to go. However, Billy keeps doubling back towards the same spot over and over. Weird. (Turns out he was waiting for their photographer.) Over the intercom, it is announced that the park is officially closed. Abbey is ready to leave, but Billy suggests they sit down on a bench and watch the remainder of the sunset. Within a few minutes, a guard walks past and tells them it is time to leave. As they stand to go, Billy takes Abbey's hand and tells her to wait. After a big hug, he neals down and pulls out a homemade paper ring! And as if were a dream, Abbey says "YES!!!"
