The Story of Us

Some love stories begin with a grand moment— a first meeting, a sweeping gesture, a spark out of nowhere. Ours began much more quietly. We were just two Mill Hill kids who lived a literal minute away from each other our entire lives. Same hometown. One street away from each other. Always close… without ever realizing just how close. We knew of each other in high school. Shelby had the kind of crush you keep to yourself, the kind that feels sweet and impossible at the same time. Aaron, of course, had no clue. Years passed, life moved forward, and somehow the distance between us stayed the same. One minute away. Then, in 2021, everything changed. Through mutual friends, we found ourselves in the same room again—this time as adults, this time with new eyes. It was a birthday party in November, and the air outside carried that familiar chill. Shelby was cold, the kind of cold that could only be helped with a warm hug... And Aaron noticed. A few glances turned into longer ones. Small moments became something more. And before we even understood what was happening, the connection that had been waiting quietly in the background all those years finally caught fire. From that night on, we became inseparable. What started in November 2021 quickly grew into something undeniable, and in January 2022, we officially began our relationship—though in many ways, it already felt like the universe had been building toward it for a lifetime. Over the past four years, we’ve built a love rooted in friendship, laughter, and the kind of comfort that feels like coming home. And then, on December 25th, 2025, Aaron gave Shelby the most unforgettable Christmas gift of all… A proposal. A forever. It’s funny to think that we spent so many years just a minute apart, unaware that the love of our lives was always so close. But maybe that’s the beauty of it. Sometimes love isn’t about finding someone far away. Sometimes it’s about finally seeing the person who’s been near all along. Just two Mill Hill kids… One minute apart… And now, a lifetime together.
