Zola: "You met each other on a dating app. Did you both have faith in these apps all along?" Aaron: “Alright so first of all, I wasn't the biggest fan of these dating apps and I was about to be done with them. I had previously used these apps on and off for a couple years but couldn't really find a relationship out of it. I turned it back on after a few months of not using it and added some fresh, handsome looking photos of myself and started to feel confident that a conversation would quickly spark up." Renata: “From the time that dating apps came out, I was completely against them. I wanted to meet someone organically and the old fashioned way but in today’s world that’s not always the easiest thing to do. At the time, I was back in school for Respiratory in an accelerated program so I had zero time to go out and socialize. I was in search of a relationship, so I reluctantly gave into using the apps and started with the 2 most popular ones; Tinder and Bumble. Once I started back on the apps I ended up matching with Aaron who was only a 5 min drive away. I thought to myself was this too good to be true?”
Zola: "OK, so you match. Now who took control of making the first move on the app? Did you meet in person right away?" Renata: “Well, I had to start the convo because of how the app works, so I asked an open-ended question like ‘Heyy how’s your Saturday going?’ Once we started messaging we instantly started hitting it off about things like food and football. He quickly asked me out for a first date which was great since I felt a connection and things felt easy, but I had to ask him to delay it 2 weeks so I could concentrate on my boards exam. He didn’t even hesitate when I asked to delay our first date.” Aaron: “ It’s a Sunday morning just after sunrise in downtown Indy at a Holiday Inn parking lot. We're hours away from another embarrassing Browns loss, this time to the Colts’ backup QB. I’m enjoying a bloody mary while waiting for friends and family to join the tailgate and all I can think about is the conversation that I’ve had with Renata up to this point and how she agreed to meet up after her exam. So naturally, there I am sitting alone, feelin' good about this match, toggling through yesterday’s convo (seeing where I messed up probably) in anticipation of meeting each other soon. Later that day I remember telling my family about her and how I can’t wait to take this ‘hot girl’ out on a date.”
Z: Sounds like you’re both ready to meet. Details please.. R: “He offered to pick me up but I'm the type who typically would say something like, ‘No thanks, I’ll meet you there.' Something was different with Aaron, something special, so I said yes. He’s the only guy I’ve ever let pick me up on a first date. First thing I noticed when he picked me up besides the passenger door handle missing, was his gorgeous blue eyes & that his shorts had anchors on it. Anchors were my sorority symbol at UNT so I thought it was quite a coincidence & thought to myself, ‘Is this my anchorman?’" A: “First thing I noticed as she approached my car was her big bright smile & long legs." A: “My first date idea was pretty money. Plan was to walk around Dallas Farmer’s Market & pick out pumpkins to take back to my apt to carve. I thought to myself this way if it we get stuck in weird silence you can just act like you’re trying really hard at carving.” R: “We walked around the market, then picked out our pumpkins. We then go back to his place to carve & get to know each other better." A: “The actual date itself though, man was I nervous. Not to mention it being a rather warm day in Dallas. I remember when we were carving, we were situated right underneath my kitchen counter light which was like a heat lamp to me at the time. I couldn’t stop sweating! Around that same time, our stencil design wouldn’t stick to the pumpkins that well so I said I’d go to my room to ‘look for tape’. I closed the door & blasted the fan on high for 2 min to cool off. There was never any tape in there from the start. If you ask Ren, to this day she will tell you my pumpkin turned out better.” R: “Next thing you know, we ended up watching some college football, then went to eat. He suggested that we share plates so that we could taste more things. Dude!... food is the way to my heart, so I loved that he suggested that. Next thing you know our first date lasted about 8 hours before he took me home."
