How we met

April, 2016

Although our relationship really began as a friendship working alongside one another at The Dewberry, many people do not know that our story began a few weeks prior. I was working as a Front Desk Agent at Belmond Charleston Place and Aaron came to the front desk to check in one of his friends from out of town. Aaron casually put a $20 right in front of my computer and said "let me know what you can do about any upgrades". I laughed to myself and thought about pocketing the $20 and telling him nothing was available, however while I was "looking" for upgrades he let me know about this new hotel he was about to start working at called The Dewberry. At this point I was about to join the team as well, so we started talking and exchanged introductions. I was able to get him that upgrade and when I started my new job I had a new friend to share the crazy pre-opening days with!

How he proposed

November 2019

I was on what I thought was a work trip in San Francisco. I was supposed to be meeting my boss for a work event who said she would be waiting for me in the lobby after I freshened up. I walked into my hotel room and Aaron was sitting there with a glass of wine in his hand. My first thought was that my boss is waiting for me downstairs and this was a bad trip to surprise me on! I quickly learned that there was no work trip and my boss was not there. Aaron framed it as a birthday trip and that I still had work on Monday. We spent the night in San Francisco wining and dining. The next morning Aaron told me to pack my bags and meet him downstairs in 20 minutes. I had no clue where we were going as he passed the exits for Napa and Sonoma (what I thought would be a fun day trip since I had to be back in San Francisco the next morning). We pull off on a dirt road in the middle of nowhere, hop a fence and walk past farm animals before he lays down a picnic blanket and tells me we're here. I looked around a bit confused and he said that the vines around us were Belle Glos Dairyman (our favorite wine). He pulls out a manila folder and said all the answers to my questions were here. When I turned around he was on one knee! In the manila folder was an itinerary for the rest of the week in Napa including our favorite wineries and a special dinner at the French Laundry! He had been working with my boss and I had the whole week off to celebrate!
