Both recently unattached, neither of us were looking for something serious. We both looking to casually date with no expectations of getting into a serious relationship, let alone another marriage! We met on a dating site and FaceTimed and texted several times before we met in person. We lived over an hour away from each other and FaceTiming was the main way we communicated in the first few months. We went on our first date and the rest was history. Our not so serious expectations turned into an exclusive relationship where we were constantly talking, driving an hour to visit, getting creative with dates and outings. The whole Covid Pandemic didnt help either, since most places were closed. We didn't let any of that deter us!. About 6 months into our relationship we were saying "I Love You" and talking about our future. We didn't just fall in love. We walked into it, arms wide open. We didn't just fall in love with just one another, we fell for each others daughter's too. We grew from two single parents, to a family of four. Less than a year into dating, we moved in together and started a whole new life together. One that is truly a blessing.
We had been talking here and there about getting engaged "when the time was right". Lyndsey would bring it up, Aaron would make a joke and it wouldn't be brought up again for a while. One night, a few days after our 2 year anniversary, we laid in bed and were talking about getting married. He said "what would you do if I pulled a ring out of my night stand and asked you right now?" I laughed and said "Well that isnt going to happen.. so it doesn't really matter" He pulled a ring out and looked at it and said "Hmmm. I wont?" -My heart stopped. "I guess I will just put it away then.." and he did. He put it back in the drawer, rolled over and went to sleep. Naturally, I didn't sleep all night. I laid there, thinking "What the heck Aaron....what does that even mean. Why would you tease me?" I then remembered, it's because he likes to be a butthead. The next morning we woke up, laying there in bed with Mackenzie in between us, watching cartoons. He opened that drawer and pulled out the ring again. He was holding it and admiring it. He looked at Mackenzie and asked "Do you think Lyndsey should marry Daddy?" and to my surprise, she said "YES!!! You should get married!!!" He told her to go into the living room for a minute and she ran out the door. He looked at me with this adorable, stupid smile he has, and said "Lyndsey, you beautiful human, will you be my wife." I sat there for a second, thinking, do I answer right away, or do I make him wait, like he made me, all night long. But HOW COULD I DO THAT? I was so excited. I shook my head yes and cried. He kissed me and put the ring on my finger then kissed me again. We walked over to tell his parents, but decided to see if they'd notice on their own. They didn't. We told Mackenzie to tell Nana a secret. She walked over and told Nana "Daddy bought Lyndsey a ring!!!!" to which she instantly cried and hugged us. She and Larry were over the moon happy. We let my family know and his brother and sister. We waited what seemed like forever to tell the one person that was most important to me. Brooke woke up HOURS later, but it felt like eternity. We sat there on the couch with her, waiting for her to also notice my engagement ring. After about 10 minutes, she saw it. She yelled "NO! ARE YOU SERIOUS? YOUR'E LYING!!!!!!!" and then proceeded to cry for 45 minutes. Aaron sat next to her and held her for most of that time. It was a beautiful moment for us all. Watching him hug and hold onto her while she was emotional just solidified my desire to marry him.
