In the midst of covid times (unfortunately), Aaron and Kim met online. After having talked for 3-4 weeks, they decided to try to meet up. Well, at that exact time everything was shut down yet AGAIN and closed due to covid and it was almost winter...what do you do? They decided on making dinner at Kim's house was the next best option (just about the only option really). But it worked...Aaron was hooked from that point on...must have been the good ol' home cooking that drew him in ;)
Aaron and Kim are both grounded in their faith and enjoy spending their time with family. It was a flawless transition including each other into their lives. With a love for adventure and the great outdoors, Aaron and Kim have spent their year of dating by skiing/snowboarding, snowshoeing, sledding, tubing, fishing, hiking, biking, kayaking, multiple camping trips, trip south to bike the Virginia Creeper Trail and visit Hocking Hills, Petoskey stone hunting, weekend trip to Traverse City, countless summer days/weekends in Holland on the lake and at the beach, and not to mention plenty of time with house remodels. We are excited to start the adventure of life together and to see what God has in store for our future!
It was a cold, snowy, blustery day on January 5 and little did Kim know that when Aaron said he was going snowboarding that he was using that as his excuse to stop by her parents to ask for Kim’s hand in marriage. Kim’s dad, Ed, was out organizing and cleaning his garage when Aaron stopped by. Conversation must have gone well as Aaron was given the “OK”. The next week, with a little help from Kim’s brother and sister in law, Ben and Lindsey, Aaron picked out the most beautiful and sparkly engagement ring for Kim that he knew was sure to put a twinkle in her eye! Aaron asked Kim if she had plans that Saturday, January 15, and if she wanted to go out snowshoeing. Kim was a little suspicious of his sudden detailed minute by minute planning for that evening but tried to not look too much into it. They went to Holland State Park which was frigid cold and very icy, so snowshoeing wasn’t really an option. But they were dressed in winter gear and trekked out to the pier taking amazing pictures of God’s beautiful creation of ice and water along the way. Between days of cloudy MI grayness we all know too well, that day the heavens opened with clear skies and beautiful sun for the proposal that was soon to come! Through somewhat treacherous ice path, they made their way to the end of the pier. It was nearly sunset and they continued taking some great photos. As the last of the sun went beneath the horizon, Kim thought ‘Ok, the sun has set. Let’s go now…’ and just as she was about to turn around Aaron said her name. When she turned, he was holding a little red box and began to get down on one knee. Between the shock and excitement, not sure either of them truly recall exactly what was said, haha, but it ended with a “Will you marry me?” and a “Yes”! As he stood up, they embraced in each other’s arms and then he placed the ring on her finger :)
