Aaron and I met in the most unexpected (and very us) kind of way—at my job while I was working at a gas station. He was the delivery driver for Beer and Red Bull, and over time, those deliveries turned into longer conversations. We started talking more and more, eventually bonding over our dogs. I had just gotten my puppy, Phelps, and was struggling with leash training. Aaron, who had his dog Eddie, offered to help. One day after work, we met up and took the dogs for a walk at the park in Washougal, WA. Somewhere along that walk, Aaron asked if I’d like to go to dinner with him sometime—and I happily said yes. He cooked me dinner for our first date, and from that point on, we spent as much time together as we possibly could. Before long, I moved in, and our little family grew even more with the arrival of our son, Waylon. The Proposal Aaron’s proposal was just as thoughtful and personal as our story. It was December, and I was pregnant with Waylon. We had our Christmas tree up, and at some point while I was out, Aaron hid my ring in the tree. Later, he told me he had a surprise for me—but instead of telling me where it was, he gave me a hint: “It’s hiding in plain sight.” I searched for it for a week or two with no luck. Eventually, Aaron stepped in to help with a game of “hot and cold.” After a lot of searching, I finally spotted a small black Fred Meyer Jewelers bag tucked into the tree. I sat down on the couch and started opening it…and that’s when Aaron got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Of course, I said yes.
