Aya met Aaron in a Bible study that Daniel and Esther led five years ago. For weeks, Aaron teased Aya, and she would also fight back and tease him back. However, Aya then started to think he was getting to tease her too much, and she was not too fond of that. So, Aya already thought that she didn’t like him… at all. 5 years later, they met again at a college group, this time when Aaron gave a testimony about the time he went overseas. They reconnected and started to talk about how life had been for both of them for the years they hadn’t seen each other. That year, they became good friends and would talk nonstop about books, movies, and especially about Lord of the Rings. Aya was in denial that she likes Aaron, she didn’t know he’s also in denial that he likes her. They had conversations about maybe trying to know if they could be more than friends… but Aya (being Aya) was freaked out and often asked Aaron why he was texting her randomly and if he liked her to ensure she was not overthinking. Aaron was basically over it, but he loved their friendship and thought to himself that he did not want to ruin it. One Sunday morning, Aya saw Aaron outside the church, and she decided that maybe she could talk to him and just stop overthinking it and just be friends. After all, Aaron loves being friends with her and enjoys their conversations. So she did, without assuming this time. Aya remembers that she felt like Aaron was a friend who listened, and she knew that she had a friend in him. Aaron texted her the same day and said the same thing. A few months after that, after the service at church, Aaron approached Aya and asked her about how she was doing because of what she was going through that week (a lot of people know what happened to her; it’s a long story), and he asked her if she’s okay. Aya was shocked that he sounded like he cares about her as they talked she then eventually ended the conversation by saying, “Bye. Text me later?” Which she didn’t expect to say. Aaron did text her later that day. He texted her the day after. And the next. And next.. and the next. Until he stopped talking to her the week after they were talking, Aya was crushed, to say the least, because she was starting to really like Aaron and was devastated because she thought she might’ve said something he didn’t like. She waited and waited for him to text again, but he didn’t for almost a week, so she thought maybe he didn’t like her. The Lord assured Aya, though, that she wouldn’t have to worry about it. Aaron texted her later that week, saying, “I thought about you. Sorry, I went to a conference and was busy.” Aaron did not stop texting Aya from that day on because he started to like her more than he anticipated. Little did he know, Aya could not contain her joy when he texted back. After weeks of texting, Aaron asked Aya to watch a movie, which was the start of their new unexpected journey together that will last a lifetime.
