We are excited to have you join us in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico for our wedding! San Miguel de Allende is a Spanish colonial city in the Bajio Mountains of central Mexico, about 170 miles northwest of Mexico City. With a population of about 140,000 people, San Miguel de Allende is a city that manages to be both quaint and cosmopolitan at the same time. Once an important stop on the silver route between Zacatecas and Mexico City, its historic center, known as El Jardin, is filled with well-preserved buildings from the 17th and 18th centuries. With narrow and colorful cobblestone streets, beautiful courtyards and rooftops and impressive architectural details, San Miguel is arguably the prettiest city in Mexico. There is a substantial expat community in San Miguel (10% of it's population is American) and English is spoken nearly everywhere. The city is incredibly safe and very welcoming to tourists. In July 2008, UNESCO recognized San Miguel de Allende as a World Heritage of Humanity Site citing the town's religious and civil architecture as a demonstration of the evolution of different trends and styles, from Baroque to late 19th century Neo-Gothic.
