Yes, we were one of those couples that fell in love working at the same Christian camp. Perhaps that's cheesey, although, perhaps very fitting considering that the groom grew up in the cheese state, Wisconsin. When I first drove up to Gull Lake Ministries, my heart was racing. I was nervous yet excited to serve at such a wonderful camp. My now brother in law, Ryan Avery, was the one who inspired me to consider working there for the summer. When I finally arrived, I noticed that the parking lot was full of the summer staff. I quickly was aware of the fact that I knew very few people, but still wanted to keep my confidence. I got out of my car and found a group of other new hires to stick with and talk to. That is when a car pulling up caught my attention, I watched as the car parked. I waited to see if another new staff hire would exit, if they would be just as nervous seeing everyone like I was. However, what I did witness was, yes, a new hire, but he was not timid or fearful, he ran straight out and hugged someone he recognized immediately. All the while, he smiled. It was his smile that made me pause. Entering a new place, or any change has always been daunting for me, but here was this man, smiling as his first response. It was in this moment that I realized that I wanted to be this joyful too. I had no idea that now, I would have the honor of becoming his wife, or that my future family was there in the car, but I was already in awe of his spirit. I am thankful to have met such an inspiring man as Abraham. I love being the one to tell this part of story, of how we met. Not because it was romantic, though it may be now, but because Abraham without realizing it, was teaching me how to be more myself and how to take on life with a relentless smile. Loving him, and being loved by him, will always be one of the greatest gifts God has blessed us with. The more I got to know and love Abraham during our time at camp and beyond, the more I learned of God's love.
