It was the timing of worlds colliding that night that made this so special, our favorite love story. Nick was staying across the street from Kalei’s house at the Beachcomber Resort for a best friend’s wedding weekend & Kalei was enjoying a bottle of wine with Morgan on the beach talking girl stuff. Morgan & Kalei made their way to the new indoor cocktail bar while Nick & boys came strolling through, walking across the street to pick up some delicious pizza at local favorites, Stingers. Morgan, knowing everyone, made her way to say hello to the wedding party while Kalei sat barefoot at the fancy bar. The night went on, Kalei & Morgan ended up at the outside bar while Nick was, in his words, “drug” to the bar by a good friend’s wife who had a kid free night & didn’t want to end the night early. Nick being a gentleman didn’t want to turn her down and keep the night going! -here is where Kalei’s memory of the night gets a littttle blurry- A few additional friends joined the party and while Kalei excused herself, Nick stole her seat & caught up with the friends he has known for years. Kalei returned to the bar and most definitely made a snarky comment about Nick being in her chair. The snarky comment mixed with the windblown beach air & no shoes in a public restaurant somehow appealed to Nick. This quickly turned into realizing our paths have crossed many of times, sharing a disgusting vanilla beer, Kalei squeezing Nicks torn off fingernail (flirting like a kindergartener) and a classy bar make out sesh. As the night came to an end Morgan exchanged our phone numbers for us & we went our separate ways. The next morning during a phone call to Morgan, while lying in the shower (yes, this is normal), Kalei was informed she met a guy the night before & in fact did share a smoochy smooch, YIKES!! While Kalei was cringing from embarrassment, Nick was across the street hop skipping around from excitement while getting ready for the wedding. He did reach out to Kalei a few times however she left him on read all weekend long – playing hard to get as they say. Nick being left to his thoughts all weekend, wondering about this Kalei person, decided to shoot his shot on Monday morning with a sappy, slightly witty text to spark conversation. The pretty decently corny jokes and slight charm pulled Kalei in. After a few days of texting back & forth, she agreed to a date night…but only if Morgan could chaperone - the mix of a Cabernet Sauvignon fuzzy minded 1st meeting & Nicks lack of social media presence led to Kalei having NO idea who she was actually having a date with. Morgan described him as a super sweet, decently handsome, semi short super model – spot on. Morgan chaperoned for all of 20 minutes before she excused herself as Nick & Kalei had picked up where the left off at the Beachcomber Bar. After a Patrizia’s first dinner date & talking in Julie’s driveway until 3 am on a school night, it was clear something special was brewing. Meeting up two days later & a dead boat battery debacle at an unnamed Nicks friend’s house later, it was confirmed that we were going to be inseparable…& still are today - lousy golf swings & all! At a bar on a random, magical Friday night, the old school way - our love story!
