I am not familiar with Orthodox Jewish weddings. What do I need to know?

Answer

Here are the basic sections of the wedding. A program will be provided day of. Kabbalat Panim: Men and women celebrate as the bride and groom host different receptions. Badeken: Yaakov will come and veil Annette. Chuppah: Wedding ceremony will take place outside under the chuppah (canopy). The processional, official betrothal, reading of the ketubah (marriage contract), Sheva Brachos (7 blessings), and breaking of the glass. Reception: Time to eat and dance the night away! Will take place inside the shul/synagogue. Bentching/Birkat Hamazon: Grace after meals with the added Sheva Brachos.

What is the dress attire for this wedding?

Answer

Formal wear. For the ladies: Please keep to the rules of modesty. No pants. Shoulders, elbows, and knees should be covered.

What kashrut status will be used?

Answer

All the food is kosher and being catered by Great Chicago Food and Beverage Co. Lubavitch shechita will be used.

Question

Where will Annette and Yaakov be for Shabbos before the wedding?

Answer

Annette will be in West Rogers Park for her Shabbos Kallah. Yaakov will be in Wilmette for his Aufruf.
