How We Met

High School Sweethearts

We actually unknowingly first met freshmen year. I was a cheerleader when a few of my squad and I met up with their friends in the opposing team's bleachers. Matt was within the friends when he first saw me. He always described me as the cute girl in the glasses that was "different from the other cheerleaders." I thought he was shy hiding in his hoodie lol. We didn't officially meet again until Junior year at vocational school. Matt noticed me on the first day, not realizing I was that same cheerleader, he didn't recognize me but thought I was (again) "cute and different." I became friends with his same friend group and had the same English class with him. This is where we became closer and we'd always pick on each other. Our bantering continued into our relationship. Our words may sound harsh to others within our giggles, but it's all in good fun, and is how we say "I love you weirdo" haha :D

The Proposal

December 25, 2020

I had been leaving hints and straight up asking Matt when he was going to propose for at least a year lol. So once we moved in together, got pregnant, and our four year anniversary was approaching... I just KNEW it was going to happen soon. Everything made me antsy and suspicious: every date, birthday, holiday, and so on. Matt began to act strange as we entered December. He wouldn't let me see his phone for any reason. Admittedly I became angry lol because he guarded it so closely, it drove me crazy! He finally told me he had bought me a gift and I couldn't see what it was until it arrived. I had a gut feeling it was a ring :D December 15th (my birthday)... nope not today! The 17th (our anniversary)... guess again! The 25th Christmas day, our immediate families came over to our house to open presents. After the kids had opened all of their gifts Matt told me there was one more gift for me hidden in our tree topper. I was extremely jittery as I tried to reach it, of course I couldn't from being so short lol. I turned around and Matt was down on one knee. He was so nervous when he asked, "Will you marry me?" Everyone else could barely hear him! I was speechless and (in Mia fashion) the first words I was able to utter was, "Well duh!"
