In October 2017, Anderson and I met during the MLK50 planning. Believe it or not, I couldn't stand to see Anderson coming. Well, things changed once we realized we had mutual friends. I became a little more friendly with Anderson, and we began to get to know one another a little. I was very impressed with his love for family and his work ethic. One day, I hosted a small group with friends to discuss goals and dreams, so I invited my new friend Anderson. Once the meeting was over, I wanted to go DANCE, and the only person who would go with me was Anderson. We went to Clicks Pool Hall. We danced, drank, talked, and laughed until about 2 am. After I left, I called my best friend and our mutual friend, and I said, " OMG, I think I like Anderson. Tell me everything you know about him." We kept it at friends and didn't take it any further until after the I Am A Man plaza project was complete, and the rest is history. Our official dating anniversary is May 28th, which happened to be the friend I called birthday. I knew I had fallen in love with Anderson the day he flew to NYC to be with me during fashion week and spent the entire time working!! He supported me in whatever way I needed and has continued to do so! I'm grateful that Jesus gave us grace and let our paths cross. I can't wait to marry the man that I know God created just for me! f We wanted our wedding date to be meaningful, and Anderson came up with the perfect Date. April 3rd, 2021 (4321), the Date that Dr. King gave the Mountaintop Speech in Memphis, TN
I got assigned to the I AM A MAN Plaza project, which is next to Clayborn Temple. At that time, Deondra was managing Clayborn. I sent her an email asking for a project schedule, and it turned into a site meeting. I pulled up excited to be apart of the project, and a woman greeted me with her arms crossed and looking fed up. After our first meeting, I knew she was going to give me hell. We began construction and the main Clayborn contact... YOU GUESSED IT… the Arms crossed, fed up lady. I got a phone call from a contractor the first morning of construction that the lady pulled their cords out of the temple, which means there was NO power. I would never have thought I'd be marrying that lady! LOL Eventually, Deondra and I became cool. She started inviting me to Clayborn events, and I'd ask her to lunch, and sometimes she'd bring me breakfast. We went to Clicks one night, which was a normal night for me, but Deondra hadn't been. We talked all night in the parking lot eating Circle B's Smoked Sausage. MLK50 week was approaching, so, we had to attend events together. The Big reveal for the plaza arrived and of course, my family came to Memphis to Celebrate, so I introduced Deondra (My friend) to my Mom and Dad. As the event continued, I looked over, and to my SURPRISE, I saw my own Mama taking selfies with Deondra (who she JUST met). The next day, I realized she was down for me when she showed up for a ribbon-cutting of another project of mine IN THE RAIN (which is really special now, that I know she doesn't like NO TYPE OF WEATHER) From then on, we talked more and more, the conversations were so much more fun and a little deeper. Fast forward to today I get to spend the rest of my life with my new best friend. I never thought of marrying a woman like Deondra. I knew I wanted to marry her when I realized she wasn't just everything I had asked God for; she was SO much more... She's perfect for me!!! Counting down the days that I get to call her my wife. 4321!
