Zilan’s story begins in Istanbul, where she made a quiet but life-changing decision. Believing she would only be gone for a few months, she came to the United States without even saying goodbye to her parents. That short visit turned into a new life. After time in Maryland, she settled in California, built a career in the tech industry, and found a job she loves. Through every change, her humor, drive, and deeply loving nature, shaped by her Kurdish roots, have always been at the heart of who she is. Jimmy grew up in San Jose, grounded by family and a strong sense of home. He is kind, determined, and deeply loyal to the people he loves. His family’s ties to Boston, where he spent his university years, and his Italian background helped shape his love for tradition, togetherness, and hard work. Like Zilan, his path also led him into the tech world. They met through their mutual friend Dylan, who knew they would get along. When they planned their first date, it turned out to be anything but ordinary. Instead of dinner or coffee, Jimmy was invited to a Kurdish picnic in the park, complete with a full cookout and a large group of friends. Before they arrived, Zilan joked that Jimmy should pretend they had known each other for five years. It was his first real introduction to Kurdish culture, and he embraced it fully, unknowingly taking his first steps toward becoming an honorary Kurd. Once they sat together, sharing food, smiles, and quiet conversation, the pretending faded away. What could have felt awkward felt easy and familiar. It was as if their hearts recognized each other before they did. In that simple afternoon, filled with laughter and small moments, two worlds came together naturally. That day marked the beginning of a relationship that has grown over more than three years and continues to deepen with time. What started with a picnic has become a life they are building side by side. From Istanbul to San Jose, their paths crossed, their worlds blended, and Jimmy and Zilan chose each other as one.
