We can’t wait to celebrate with you!
We first met at Camp Agape, a bereavement camp for children. While the camp’s mission was to lead hurting hearts to healing, we couldn’t help but notice each other. Alaina was captivated by the way Chris led his group with such care, serving as an incredible role model for his campers and those around him. Chris couldn’t take his eyes off Alaina. He felt an unspoken connection that seemed to grow stronger with each moment. So much so that he encouraged his assigned camper to sit with her when he saw her eating alone so he could have the chance to give her company. Unfortunately, the camper didn’t comply. When summer camp came to an end, we stood next to each other, waiting to see what might happen next. Just as the moment lingered, Alaina’s dad called out to her to wrap up the conversation, startling her. She responded with an eye roll, and the moment passed. Chris left without asking for Alaina’s number. We both felt sick to our stomachs as we said goodbye. Alaina continued to direct camp clean-up but found herself struggling, with Chris constantly on her mind. Chris couldn’t shake the thought of not seeing Alaina again. Ten minutes into his drive home, he turned around and returned to camp, hoping for a chance to run into her. Feeling silly when confronted by a friend about being back, Chris questioned what he was doing and left again, unsure if he’d missed his chance. He would find a way to contact her. Alaina must have just missed Chris’s return to camp. As she began checking cabins for forgotten items, she convinced herself not to reach out and decided to let Chris make the first move...that mindset didn’t last long. While checking Chris’s cabin, Alaina found an abandoned phone charger. Seeing her chance—being the director with access to all attendees' phone numbers—she texted Chris a photo and asked if it was his. Chris felt like he had just been handed a lifeline. He pulled off the road and quickly texted back that he’d like to take her out. Two days later, we had our first date, and from there, everything fell into place. Chris later admitted he had looked all over the cabin when he returned to camp, hoping to find a reason to speak to Alaina—perhaps someone had left something behind, and he could bring it to her. To this day, Chris still thinks Alaina planted the charger, but Alaina insists it was there on the bathroom sink. We may never know how the charger appeared, but it brought us together in the most unexpected way. We quickly fell in love. Alaina met Chris’s two sons, Evan and Shane. We took a spontaneous trip to Costa Rica, enjoyed weekends hunting, camping, and doing what we love most—outdoorsy adventures. And less than a year later, we exchanged vows in a private ceremony to celebrate our commitment to each other. A week later, we returned to summer camp, as a couple. Now, we are beyond excited to gather with all of you for our wedding and officially begin this next chapter together.
