In May of 2019, Chloe had just finished her graduate school studies in Biological Sciences, and Will had wrapped up another year of college studying Integrative Animal Biology when they both found themselves selected to be interns at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium for the Sea Turtle Conservation Program. Out of over 50 qualified applicants, Will and Chloe were two out of four interns chosen in this department for CMA’s group of summer interns. Will had applied to several internships to supplement his resume, knowing he would soon be applying to veterinary schools, and was actually accepted by multiple places, but ultimately chose this internship. Chloe wasn’t sure of what was next after grad school, so she applied to this *one* internship where she knew she would get to see and interact with sea turtles, her absolute favorite animal in the whole world, and crossed her fingers that she’d be accepted. By some twist of fate, they both found themselves as interns at the same place and time, and met on May 20th, 2019. They first spoke when Will taught Chloe how to log water samples (one of the aspects of their job). Over the course of the summer, Chloe and Will got to be close friends, but knew that he had to go back to Tampa for his senior year of college, and Chloe had to go back to Mississippi to figure out her next step. At the end of the summer, they knew that they didn’t want their story to end, and they knew something was there, so they decided to keep talking, and maybe they could visit each other some time. One time, on the phone, Chloe heard Will call her his “girlfriend” while he was talking to one of his friends. Chloe said “I’m your girlfriend?” Since their relationship started so organically, they decided to call their first day of official dating August 18, 2019, which was the day that Chloe left Clearwater to go back to Mississippi; the day that they decided to stay in touch. They were long distance for the next 9 months, visiting when their timelines and wallets could afford it. Then, they both got jobs for the Broward County Sea Turtle Conservation Program in Broward County, FL. More turtles! But - they were about to transition from a long distance relationship to LIVING together. Needless to say, our families were concerned, and rightfully so. Along the way, Chloe got her teaching certificate and began teaching elementary school, and Will got into veterinary school at LSU in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where they currently live, study, and work. They would like to thank sea turtles for single-handedly bringing them together.
