Thank you BLK for providing us the platform to meet and fall in love.

When Swiping Goes Right!

Shoutout to the BLK App

In the digital age, love stories often begin with a simple swipe, and our love story is no exception. In 2021, amidst the challenges and uncertainties of the pandemic, fate brought us together on the BLK app, a platform designed for Black singles to find meaningful connections. The First Connection: In March of 2021, Whitley attended the five year anniversary celebration of Allison (one of her best friends) and her husband Branton. As beautiful as it was to see the two of them express their love, it made her realize that life will pass you by if you allow it. Although she was living in Pasadena, cherishing her independence and embracing her successful marketing career she knew something was missing. Unbeknownst to her, Edward was in Bakersfield feeling the same way. He had it all, a steady job, a beautiful home, and an honorable military discharge, but he felt compelled to find a partner that he could share it with. Whitley joined BLK in hopes of finding someone who shared her values and aspirations, but also wanted to travel the world (preferably an all inclusive beach resort). Edward, a passionate social worker and community leader, was also on BLK, looking for a genuine connection with someone who understood his drive, ambition, and military jargon. One evening, as Edward was scrolling through profiles, he came across Whitley's profile. His captivating smile and the passion he exuded in his bio caught her attention. Intrigued by his "Super Like" which she later earned cost him $1.99, she swiped right, hoping for a match. To her surprise, Edward was prepared to not only have a virtual date, but he wanted one that very night. After that, a match was made. The First Conversation: Their first conversation was effortless. FaceTime proved to be handy for the two. In his attempt to be romantic, Edward had a glass of wine in hand hoping to woo Whitley. They bonded over their faith, mutual love for community service, their professional aspirations, and their shared experiences as Black professionals. Whitley admired Edward's dedication to empowering the Black community through his work, and Edward was captivated by Whitley's creativity and determination. The First Date: After two weeks of engaging conversations and virtual dates, they decided to meet in person. Their first date was at a seafood restaurant in Valencia. As they sat across from each other, they felt an undeniable connection. They talked for hours, sharing stories of their past, dreams for the future, and their love for their families and culture. **Building a Relationship** As months went by, Whitley and Edward's bond grew stronger. They supported each other's endeavors, attended community events together, and even collaborated on a few projects for Edward's company "The Social Servant". Their relationship was built on mutual respect, understanding, and a deep affection for one another. The Proposal: In the spring of 2024, Edward decided it was time to take their relationship to the next level. He told Whitley he wanted to go grab some breakfast and run some errands. If anyone knows Whitley she loves online shopping, but she decided to let Edward lead and surrendered her need for control. Edward asked to stop in a jewelry store to get Whitley's ring size. He pretended to have her pick her ring style and try it on. Once it was on her finger he got down on one knee and asked Whitley to be his partner for life. With tears of joy, Whitley said yes, and in that moment three years felt like a flash. Looking Forward: Now, as they plan their wedding and prepare to start their new life together, Whitley and Edward are excited about the future. They look forward to continuing their journey, hand in hand, and creating a legacy of love, support, and community. Their love story, which began with a swipe on the BLK app, is a testament to the power of modern technology in bringing people together and the timeless magic of finding one's soulmate.
