How We Met

When Roadside Assistance Wasn’t the Real Rescue.

It all started in a Whole Foods parking lot—proof that love really can be found in the most unexpected places. Wendell was sitting in his work vehicle, enjoying a quick snack between duties. Carol, on the other hand, was stranded in the Houston heat with a flat tire, waiting for roadside assistance that seemed to have forgotten about her. She was on the phone with her friend Nicole, narrating the ordeal, when Nicole suggested, “Why don’t you ask that man in the car to help you?” Carol hesitated. Approaching a stranger wasn’t usually her style. But as the Texas sun beamed down, the heat and frustration won. She finally motioned for the man in the car—Wendell—to roll down his window. Wendell greeted her warmly and explained that, because he was on duty, he couldn’t physically change the tire. Still, he offered to help in any way he could, even calling the wrecker service his job uses. Unfortunately, they wouldn’t touch the tire of a luxury vehicle for liability reasons. As they waited, Carol listened to Wendell share a funny work story, and they discovered an easy, comfortable rhythm in their conversation. Wendell offered to come back in about thirty minutes—after his shift ended—to help. Carol gave him her number just in case. Her roadside assistance finally arrived before Wendell’s shift ended, but that didn’t stop him. True to his word, Wendell called her later that evening to check in. Carol thanked him for going out of his way, and maybe—just maybe—she did a little light flirting. The next day, Wendell checked on her again. And from that point forward… well, as they say: The rest is history.

Wedding Party

We can’t wait to introduce you to our amazing wedding party — the family and friends who have been with us through every twist, turn, and laugh in our love story. They’ve cheered us on, kept us grounded, and made sure we never take life too seriously. Names, stories, and fun photos coming soon… we promise they’re worth the wait!

Zechariah Smith

Best Man

Zech may only be 13, but he’s already landed the role of Best Man! He’s Wendell’s proud son, a little on the quiet side, but full of heart. Don’t expect a long speech, but do expect him to stand tall next to his dad, share a smile, and maybe sneak in a few dance moves when no one’s looking.

Damon Simpson

Groom

Damon has known Wendell since 1988 when Wendell was pushing weight, which means they’ve shared everything from Nintendo Controllers, cassette tapes, questionable haircuts to even more questionable fashion choices. Over the decades, they’ve built a friendship full of stories, laughs, and the kind of loyalty that only comes with time. Having him stand by Wendell’s side is a true full-circle moment.

Cedric Walker

Groom

Cedric and Wendell’s friendship developed when they worked together. It didn’t take long for them to bond like brothers.. Cedric is known for his laid-back vibe and great sense of humor. He’s always ready with a laugh, or some rock solid advice.

Torey Wooten

Matron of Honor

Torey has been my closest friend for over 30 years, and truly feels more like family than anything else. From high school memories to life’s biggest milestones, she’s been by my side through it all. Her loyalty, friendship, and laughter have carried me through the best and hardest times. I am so blessed to have her celebrate this new chapter of life.

Katia Soileau

Bridesman

I’ve had the joy of knowing Katia her entire life, and it has been such a blessing to watch her grow into the incredible woman she is today. Katia has blossomed from a sweet infant into a devoted mother to her own beautiful daughter. She carries herself with grace, resilience, and a heart full of love. I am beyond grateful to have her by my side on such a special day.

Debra “Dede” Greaves

Matron of Elegance

Dede has a genuine heart of gold! A strong family oriented woman whose presence lights up every room she walks into. Her kindness runs deep, and her support has been a blessing throughout this journey. Beyond being a sister-in-law, she has become a true sister in spirit—someone I admire, trust, and cherish. I am grateful to celebrate this day with her standing and cheering us on.

Kyrie Smith

Flower Girl

Kyrie is a ray of sunshine because her smile is genuine. Kyrie loves to dance, doodle and draw then share the things she created with her family and friends. On our wedding day, she will walk down the aisle with grace reminding us all of the beauty of family. We are so blessed to share this special moment with her. I am honored to celebrate not only a marriage, but the blessing of having a bonus daughter.

Tahiry Greaves

Flower Child

At just three years old, Tahiry is an absolute joy. With her bright eyes, playful spirit, and the sweetest little laugh, she has a way of making every moment feel magical. Though she is small, her presence fills the room with love and happiness. On our wedding day, she will walk down the aisle reminding us all of the beauty of youthful new beginnings. We are so blessed to share this special moment with her.
