How We Met

10.17.2020

We matched on the dating app Hinge and started chatting. Due to Andy’s less-than-helpful restaurant schedule, the only first date we could plan was a Saturday morning breakfast date. Breakfast dates lead to ‘Friends with Benedicts!’. The date went so well that we shared a romantic kiss in the rain afterward. A few short weeks later, we decided to cancel a fancy dinner date and instead ate sushi takeout while vegging on the couch in our pajamas and we knew we were onto something really great.

The Proposal

07.24.2023

Andy’s planned proposal was to pop the question during a walk on Kennebunk Beach, a regular activity we enjoy with our dog Alfredo, followed by celebratory drinks at a local wine bar. A fun tradition of ours is to race to the rocks as we approach the jetty. He planned to let me win and then be on one knee when I turned around. We had made plans to walk the beach one day after work, and with no knowledge of this plan, I came home and declared that it was supposed to start raining any minute so I canceled our walk and Andy immediately started to panic. While eating dinner that evening, he was internally stressing when his phone buzzed with a notification, he quickly grabbed it out of my view and I knew something was up. Even with his plan scrapped, Andy’s anticipation to propose could not be held back. While lying in bed, he handed me a ring and asked me to spend the rest of my life with him and I quickly agreed. The notification ended up being a reminder of his reservation at the wine bar and he was terrified I would see it. In typical Andy fashion, he panicked and botched his whole plan, but I love him so much that it didn’t even matter.
