This is a great neighborhood to walk around in. There are lots of great food options and little shops to explore. This particular block is known for its nightlife, so we encourage you to walk around in the evening and check out some of the cool bars and cocktail lounges, like the ones mentioned above.
Shopping mall with great stores, restaurants and views of the city.
This museum houses an extensive collection of Fernando Botero's pieces. Fernando Botero’s art style, known as “Boterismo,” is characterized by exaggerated, rounded forms that give his subjects a voluminous and inflated appearance. His vibrant and detailed works, often featuring people, animals, and objects, blend humor and social commentary while exploring themes of politics, power, and Latin American culture.
We recommend booking a guided tour, whether on your own, or using the company mentioned below. Comuna 13 in Medellín, Colombia, is a vibrant neighborhood that has transformed from a history of conflict into a symbol of resilience and creativity. It is now a major tourist attraction known for its colorful street art and graffiti, which tell powerful stories of the community’s past, culture, and hopes for the future. Visitors can explore the area using the innovative outdoor escalators that connect the steep hillside neighborhood, a symbol of progress and accessibility. Guided tours led by locals provide personal insights into its transformation, while live performances like breakdancing and music showcase the talent and energy of the community. This blend of art, culture, and inspiring history makes Comuna 13 one of Medellín’s most unique and memorable attractions.
For guided tours, we recommend Feel Tourism Experiences. Their portfolio of excursions and contact information can be found in the link below:
We recommend arriving on Sunday, Sept 28th, and departing on Sunday, Oct 5th, to give you plenty of time to enjoy the city and relax after the wedding. We will also have optional excursions planned during that week for those who want to explore outside of the city. However, you're welcome to arrive any day during that week that works best for you.
We will provide transportation to and from the wedding, departing from The Click Clack Hotel. The buses will leave the hotel at 3:00 PM, so please gather in the lobby at 2:45 PM.
Medellin is known as the "City of Eternal Spring" for its mild climate with an average temperature of 75°F. You can expect to see swings between 60°F to 85°F depending on the time of day. Llanogrande, Rionegro (where the wedding will take place) tends to be a bit cooler due to its higher elevations. The swings are closer to 50°F to 75°F depending on the time of day.
Transportation: Use reputable taxi services or ride-hailing apps like Uber to ensure safe travel around the city. Avoid accepting rides from unofficial taxis. Personal Belongings: Keep your valuables, such as jewelry, cameras, and electronics, secure and out of sight, especially in crowded areas or on public transportation. Local Advice: Stay informed about areas that are considered safe for tourists. Ask locals or your hotel staff for recommendations on places to visit and areas to avoid. Have Safe Fun: Medellin's nightlife has been internationally recognized as being on of the best in the world, but please remember that being overly drunk in public makes you a target for those looking to take advantage of tourists. Please drink responsibly. Emergency Numbers: Keep local emergency numbers handy. The general emergency number in Colombia is 123. Street Smarts: Be mindful of your surroundings and avoid walking alone at night in unfamiliar areas.
The currency in Colombia is Colombian pesos COP. Today, the conversion rate is about 4,000 COP to 1 USD. While most places accept credit cards, there are a few that only accept cash so we would suggest visiting an ATM and having some cash on you at all times. Just note that currency exchange at the airport tends to have more expensive rates.
If you are planning to visit Colombia for more than 5 days, you may want to visit another part of the country. For those that are planning to travel to other cities in Colombia, we recommend El Eje Cafetero, San Andres, Cartagena, Bogota and surrounding areas. While these cities may look relatively close on a map it's a very long drive if you go by car. So for traveling between cities, we suggest taking a short flight.
While the water in most of Colombia is considered to be safe to drink from the tap, we encourage those traveling to drink bottled water only to avoid any sort of travel illness. Maria weirdly loves the taste of the tap water in Medellin, but to each their own!
Due to the overwhelming love and support we've received for our destination wedding, we’ve decided not to host a separate celebration in Wisconsin. While we won’t be gathering stateside, please know how much we appreciate all of you- whether you're joining us in Colombia or celebrating from afar.
