It all started when Jonathan Chan met Tony Zhu at Central Park and asked, "Hello? Do you know Jun Hao?" That simple question sparked a series of events, from Tony Zhu's Backyard BBQ to Board Game Nights, and eventually, one day after the pandemic, Tony called Jon to ask if he could come over. Jon said sure, but only if Tony could drive and pick up his friends to Washington DC where he was staying. One of the people Tony picked up happened to be YingJung Amber Lai. During the four-hour car ride, they bonded over their personal growth and the lessons they learned during the pandemic. After the DC trip, they continued to hang out within their own friend groups. It was very obvious to their friends that something was going on, but Amber and Tony were oblivious. One day, a mutual friend came over to Tony's house and told him directly that Amber was single and that he should think about it. Think about it he did, and he realized that all the text messages and the 1-2 hour phone calls with Amber might mean they were something more than friends. So he asked her what she thought about it, and she was curious as well. After four dates—a Hot Air Balloon Festival, a night walk in Bridgewater, NJ, a day trip to Little Island, and finally at Brooklyn Bridge Park—they decided to be official. They loved talking to each other for hours on end and were each other's favorite person to see, looking forward to the next time they would be together. And that was how it all started.
